There’s a new album on the way from one of Denmarks foremost electronic pioneers.

Kenneth Bager’s next project, titled Silence Was Singing, is an electronic pop-collaboration with british singer-songwriter Findlay Brown. The artists here present the second single, ‘Red Flowers’, released April 26 on Kenneth Bager’s own label Music For Dreams.

‘Red Flowers’ is a dub-inspired electronic pop track festooned with shimmering disco synths (Nikolaj Torp) and billowing trumpet hooks (Kasper Tranberg).

Bager says:
“The track came about a cold winter day in a studio in Østerbro (Copenhagen). Anders Ponsaing (producer) and I had come up with a demo but it was missing something. We liked the idea of a trumpet and called up the incredible trumpetist Kasper Tranberg. When we heard the melodies and the sound of his trumpet on the track, everything suddenly clicked together.
The keyboards are recorded in London by Nikolaj Torp, along with the bass, played by Colin Parkinson. The vocal, of course, is sung by Findlay Brown, and recorded on the Danish island of Møn. 

Silence Was Singing, which will drop in January 2025 via Music For Dreams, adds one more bud to Kenneth Bager’s already flowery oeuvre. Beginning with the trailblazing house and techno-recordings of the early 90’s under the moniker Dr. Baker, shifting form to the jazz-pop pixie world of his ‘fragments’-projects, and later unfolding in the big-room electronic pop of Follow The Beat. More recently, Bager has released the film-music project East of North (2023) and the club album Late Night Symphonies (2022).

The track comes off a collaborative album currently under way from the Danish electronic pioneer and the British singer-songwriter. The album, titled Silence Was Singing, is set to be released in 2025 on Music For Dreams.

‘Love From Outer Space’ is a luscious piece of electronic space pop, which takes inspiration from the post-disco sounds of Paradise Garage. The track was produced in collaboration with Copenhagen-based producers WALTHER and OliO.

It features glitzy harlequin synths, talk box vocals, groovy guitar by Jonas Krag aka Santino Surfers and a fanfare brass section consisting of David Santiuste (trumpet), Roberto Lorenzo Elekes (trombone) and Pablo Hernández Ramos (Sax).

Vocals are, of course, by Findlay Brown while backing vocals are provided by Marie Carmen Koppel and Jimmy Bacoli.

Findlay Brown says: ”I thought the music that Kenneth sent me was really positive, almost spiritual. When I wrote the lyrics, I was thinking about waking up in the morning and seeing my wife sleeping with that early morning sunlight on her face and how perfect it was and how it was like a gift from outer space, like pure love raining down on her. And then there’s the obvious nod to Andy Weatherall.”

Kenneth Bager sends Hess Is More into the stratosphere with new ‘You Don’t Dance’ remix.

The original song was released on Hess Is More album ‘CÆKE’ earlier this year on Bager’s label Music For Dreams. Bager fell in love with the track: a cheeky little synth melody and the oddball fortune cookie mantra: “You don’t dance because you’re happy/You’re happy because you dance.”
 
With his own remix of the track, Bager has put the emphasis on the dance-part. The muted indie-style production has been traded in for a bona fide post-disco rig, teeming with funked-out percussion loops and mischievous little twists to Hess’ ingenious synthwork.
 
The remix is released August 27th on Music For Dreams.
