Just like Vol 1. earlier this year, it’s a compilation filled to the rim with catchy blessings, making sure that you can withhold from the winter to coming.

Noticeable amongst this compilation’s 19 blessings is the opener ‘Aviator’ by the inventive, percussion- based ensemble Sun Creatures consisting of the two musicians Arto Eriksen and Fridolin Nordsø. A sexy jazzy single that could have come out of a stripped-down Love Unlimited Orchestra tune. Another addition is Brit- ish-Chinese DJ and producer Ken Fan that delivers a slice of surging euphoria with ‘Desire’. It’s an operatic journey of blissful pads and majestic piano rises, sus- tained by dynamic drum work. Furthermore, it’s the first single from Ken Fan’s forthcoming project with MFD.

Label-boss Kenneth Bager, the Turkish islandman and Jez Phunk has gotten together and created the won- der ‘Lost’, an exclusive for this compilation. ‘Lost’ is a ra- ther up-tempo chill-out tune with a catchy bassline, chords, shouting tales and a violin solo. DJ Disse’s iconic track ‘Taxi to War’ has been remixed by new- comers Subnesia so “la la lay” yourself through your day.

CHAIRNOGOODFORBACK is featured with their single ‘High Mountains Wild Rivers’. The duo says that they wanted to reflect the stream of consciousness and the idea of being able to comprehend and overcome sit- uations in life through common sense.

Finishing off Copenhagen 2022 Vol. 2 is Venezuelan Vi- nicio Adames who’s won several awards for his sound- tracks on Venezuelan movies. This time he’s featured with a church like ‘Ocre’.

Kenneth Bager - Copenhagen 2022 Vol. 2 (Full Comp) - 0274

This album is a compilation of Reinhard Vanbergen’s work. Compiled by Jon Tattersall, Music for Dreams’ label manager and a close friend. This compilation saw the light after Vanbergen released 17 solo albums in 3 years of different styles and another dozen releases with various other projects.

Vanbergen’s solo albums with vocals are all co- written with Charlotte Caluwaerts. The instrumental albums are a mix of nu-classical, ambient, and cinematic soundscapes. Stringed instruments mostly being the basic ingredient of it all, contributing to Vanbergen’s signature sound.

Vanbergen have made a series of “Inspired by” albums and some of the tracks are featured on this ‘best of’ album. For those albums, artists outside of music ignited the inspiration. A painter, a star chef, a photographer, a VR game company, an installation artist...
To stay within this tradition, Vanbergen asked for a painting by another inspiring artist he was lucky enough to meet while he was on tour in Kosovo.

Fitore Berisha Alisdottir is a Kosovar-Icelandic artist. Through her art, she brings out the emotions of desperation and the expression of those surrounding her. Her colours represent the future she hopes to see, vibrant and full of love. Her work treats human problems and obstacles from daily life, which she's witnessed during her journeys in many different places.

Sharing art, connecting and supporting other artists, and building a network of like-minded people was the common ground from the start with Kenneth Bager’s Music For Dreams, and the spirit in which all Vanbergen’s albums and projects were created.

All 7 tracks on this album are exactly 10 minutes long, one for each day of the week.
The number 7 seems to like the shape of the circle. 
When I started researching what my underlaying story could be, I came across the 7 church modes. 
In the western classical music, we know 2 modes, our minor scale (Aeolian) and our major scale (Ionian). 
We lost 5 scales, 5 colors, over the course of history going back to the Greek. The Western music system relied more and more on vertical harmony, while the modal system uses primarily a horizontal based harmony.
The piano is the easiest way to explain the modes: the scale starting from any white key of the piano to the same note an octave higher or lower, gives us a mode with its typical division and order of whole and half notes, specific to the modes. (tone, tone, half tone, tone, tone, tone, half tone for example is the Ionian, our major scale.)
The circle of fifths is yet another circle, one of 12 but with the 7 notes as building block. the number 12 seems to like circles too: the months, 12 hours, star signs…
If you go left on the circle of fifths, the first 7 notes give you the Locrian mode and if you go right the first 7 notes give you the Lydian mode. Those 2 modes are each other’s opposites, most minor and dark to most major and light. In between those 2 you can rank the other 5 from les minor to the more major. As turns out, this also follows the circle of fifths. This order is: Locrian, Phrygian, Aeolian, Dorian, Mixolydian, Ionian, and Lydian. On a piano the scales starting from B, E, A, D, G, C and F.
But what day could be paired with what mode? 
There is a dozen more circles of 7: the colors of the rainbow, the electromagnetic spectrum, the 7 crystal structures, 7 basic emotions and the chakras for example. The latter translated even means circle.
The ranking of the 7 church modes from dark to light seems a match with the chakras, Locrian being the root, and Lydian the crown. The up warts visualization of the chakras and the circle within are very similar to the 7 church modes. The upwards motion is the minor to major movement. Bothe the Locrian and the Lydian scale have a connection with the diminished 5th and the augmented 4th (being enharmonically the same), and thus closing the circle. 
Chakras also have known links to the 5 visible planets and the moon and the sun. The root is linked with Mars, navel with Mercury, Solar Plexus with Jupiter, Heart with Venus, Throat with Saturn, Third eye with the Sun, and crown with the Moon. Those 7 celestial bodies have a link to the days of the week: Saturday, Sunday and Monday are obviously linked to Saturn, the Sun and Moon.  In French you have Mardi, Mercredi, Jeudi, and Vendredi standing for Mars, Mercurius, Jupiter and Venus… When we start on a Tuesday with the Locrian scale and the red root chakra, it all falls beautifully into place. As the days of the week also follow the logical order of the week in the order of the chakras, again in a circle.

Reinhard Vanbergen - Meditation on Modern Modes (Full Album) - 0313

The Ghent home of Reinhard Vanbergen and Charlotte Caluwaerts has proven a cornucopia of wonderful pop music in past years. From the critical triumph of their indie-disco project Rheinzand (alongside Mo Disko) to a sprawling catalog of solo and collaborative albums, the two seem to have struck upon a bottomless goldmine of dazzling electronic pop.

On this newest release, the pair team up with electronic sound magician Reinhard Roelandts to deliver a teeming bundle of intelligent and atmospheric electronic pop. From the bleeping neo-psychedelia of ‘More Than I Wanted’ or ‘Consolation for the Times’ to the shrewd art-pop of ‘Bitter Silhouette’ or the quirky aquatic charm of ‘Only Love’.

The sound is playful and whimsical yet assured and sophisticated. It is a more humble and reflective pop than for example Rheinzand’s operatic disco. Still not afraid to rock the house, though, as evident on the galvanized ‘Days in Between’ or the rousing, anthemic ‘Dagger’. References span from Animal Collective to Cate Le Bon to Scott Walker.

This truly enigmatic sound is built from Roelandt’s maverick experimentation with homemade modular synths layered among multi-instrumentalist Vanbergen’s acoustic arrangements. This was also the recipe for last year’s Reinhard & Reinhard. The new element now, of course, is Charlotte’s vocals. But it is an addition that alters the shape, the songs here being more structured and dramatic, built around the enchanting vocals and their wistful and dreamy lyrical motifs.
