| From the Middle East to Central America and Russia, a trio of artists blend their talents. Out of the darkness and into the light, Golan Zocher, Gux Jimenez and Mango build a stratified sonic masterpiece from “Only a Shadow”. Subtle organic layers amble through a forest of percussive saplings that sit beneath a towering beat and subterranean groove. Emerging in the dappled moonlit shadows, evocative motifs create an eerie atmosphere before a bassline force springs from the undergrowth and into the open, prowling beneath luscious melody.

Harnessing familiar energies from the darkness, Dowden hypnotises with a new poise and grace. “Only a Shadow” forms in the twilight as white noise crashes in pulsating waves. A mesmerising bassline hits the Toronto streets where it forges a path through pinpricks of melodic light and a seething, rolling rhythmic groove. A pioneering sonic architecture is forged from exquisite St Petersburg and Sao Paulo landscapes. Bassline and synth lines fire off each other in playful interaction and melodic beauty swirls in coruscating patterns of delay and intrigue. “Only a Shadow” is transformed into an iridescent array of sonic colour and uplifting brio by K Loveski & Gorkiz. |

Ending the year on a high having witnessed a plethora of musical highlights, Meanwhile has been a shining beacon for progressive house throughout 2021. Now, Australian, Mike Rish, becomes the latest debutant to showcase his talents on GMJ & Matter’s blossoming imprint with the 3-track “Beyond” EP.
 
From his home on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Mike Rish has witnessed an impressive rise to notoriety, courtesy of a clutch of high-profile releases on an exclusive set of blue-chip labels. Not wanting to flood the progressive house scene with a swathe of formulaic dance music, the Melbourne resident’s “selective output” is based on a carefully thought-out commitment to “keep people engaged, but also wanting more”. Thus, Rish’s work for the likes of Colorize, Serendeep and Juicebox Music, has seen the Australian carve out a sizeable niche for himself, further enhanced by March 2021’s 12-track “Interlinked” album for UGENIUS Music.

Opening his Meanwhile account with the “Beyond” title track, a chunky beat and cavernous bass groove sit tightly against off-beat hats and snare. Filtering into sonic range, an elegant arpeggio provides glorious melodic interplay as white-noise washes and meandering pads pulse gently across the near 10-minute piece. Full of spine-tingling atmosphere, additional melodic phrasing is introduced at the breakdown before extending into the third movement with ease, combined with a raft of effects and masterful touches.
 
A bouncing bass groove immediately finds “Mindgame” oozing with hypnotic force and low-end menace. Sat perfectly in between deep kick and ticking hats, a flowing melodic line ripples across proceedings as it rises and falls with filtered dynamism. Twisted vocal cuts and acetylene-edged synth effects pitch with glissando range adding to the aural collage in a track full of dark and mesmerising beauty.

 Closing the EP, “Here For You” is characterised by an intricate percussive arrangement that introduces a subtle melodic backdrop. Effects and textured pads span the stereo stage in modulated glory as a pulsating lead melody enters the fray in the second movement. Building steadily before revealing itself fully in the stripped back breakdown, the second half blossoms in commanding fashion with a pulsating confluence of rhythm and melody. The result is a track that illustrates Mike Rish’s unique talent and technique.
 
A musical triptych full of innovation and sonic narrative, Mike Rish has gone above and “Beyond” with a glittering display of production prowess.

The 40th release on microCastle welcomes Jamie Stevens back to the label for a new EP. The Australian producer is making his fifth appearance on the Canadian imprint which follows his critically acclaimed 'The Wonder of You' EP from 2013. Jamie has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of his country’s most talented and sought after music producers he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary electronic music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian live act, he’s left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric- London, Pacha – Buenos Aires, Womb- Tokyo and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. In his home country, Infusion has received 2 prestigious ARIA awards for their work. More recently Jamie’s solo discography has been highlighted with a contribution to John Digweed and Nick Muir’s ‘Versus’ album (released courtesy of Bedrock) along with the aforementioned ‘The Wonder of You’, reaching #1 positions on Beatport in Tech House and Electronica and now regarded as Jamie's career best piece of music. Standout remixes for King Unique and Robert Babicz were showcased in the the first half of 2015 and now microCastle is pleased to present Jamie's long awaited EP entitled 'The Healing' alongside a remix from label artist Guy J.

The release begins with 'My Tears Don't Help Me' which finds Jamie crafting a deep and emotive number in his own inimitable style. Anchored by subterranean beats and a low slung groove it's an immediately compelling piece of music, compounded by vocal motifs and orchestral designs. It's a deeply moving vibe and one which comes from a real life place. In Jamie's own words "After a succession of very trying months this past year, the vocal sample I came across when making this track spoke to me sincerely. It was the perfect fit for the music I had created from the same headspace."

The lone interpretation of 'My Tears Don't Help Me' is provided by Guy J who is making his fourth appearance on microCastle. The Israeli born Malta based producer is fresh off several triumphs in 2014. Guy's 'Once In A Blue Moon' EP, released courtesy of Bedrock Records was one of the year's most critically acclaimed releases. Reaching #1 in the Beatport Top 100, its sophisticated melodies touched the hearts and minds of music lovers around the globe; it proved once again that there is simply no one better at crafting soulful sounds. Guy also readily accepted the challenge of updating one of electronic music's seminal ambient compositions, Barry Jamieson's 'Stars', released courtesy of microCastle. A daunting task and one which he pulled off with resounding success. As the collective electronic music underground anxiously awaits Guy's newest studio creation microCastle is pleased to present just his second production of 2015. For his 'My Tears Don't Help Me' interpretation Guy has put his own magical touch on the production and reinvented it for a peak time dance floor. It's tough, driving beats and big, commanding drums bring an energetic presence while a storyboard of indistinct motifs tastefully lift the emotion higher. Jeremy Rowlett is always one of our top picks when we need someone to make a remix of a super strong track and he converted the original version into a storming dancefloor killer, the deep and driving techno influenced bassline works perfectly with the layered peaktime trance lead! Jeremy's trademark sound all over this one, just the way we love it! You might have heard the second remix of this package on John '00' Fleming's disc of FSOE 550 compilation and that explains its strength as Adam Thomas aka London based DJ and producer Façade completely wrecked all the possible and perspective walls of his comfort zone with his dynamic progressive trance remix, there's nothing more to add really, just turn it up and enjoy!
