The heavy sound of the African heritage in Venezuela. Rhythms and Percussion instruments brought from West Africa by the time of the slave trade that remained unexposed until the late 70's, when the band Un Solo Pueblo took the Venezuelan airwaves by storm with a traditional repertoire they had compiled themselves after traveling extensively for years in the most remote areas of the country in order to learn those songs directly from people who had successively learnt them from their ancestors on a process that went back to the arrival of the first slaves, in the early 16th century. Employing unique drums like the Cumaco, Mina, Culo 'e Puya, Paila or the Quitiplás, the polyrhythmic structure of rhythms such as Golpe (with each town having its own particular variation), Sangueo or Fulía can be heard on this mix, that compiles some of the most interesting moments of the many recordings that began to surface in Venezuela back in the late 70's featuring Afro Venezuelan music exclusively.

For the next instalment of our Record Club Mix series we’re honoured to be passing the baton to one of Brazil’s finest DJs, @milloskaiser.

Born and raised in Niterói, near Rio de Janeiro, Millos moved to São Paulo in his early twenties and has been DJing and collecting records for almost two decades. You may recognise his name as formerly one half of the DJ duo and party series, Selvagem, the man behind the Onda de Amor compilation on Soundway Records, or through his various several edits and remixes. Having played more than 1000 parties/festivals, both underground and big league, he knows a thing or two about how to make people move and for the last 5 years has also been running Caracol, a music bar/club in São Paulo. 

“For a change, I've decided to focus solely on new stuff: Brazilian productions and recent releases that sound heavily Brazil-influenced for my ears. I'm probably most known for digging out hidden and forgotten gems but this time decided to do a mix exclusively with music from the present that has been on heavy rotation on my sets. I love all these tracks and have been playing them A LOT for the last year or so. There's stuff from Phil Mison's Cantoma project, an Italian cover-not-cover of Sandra de Sá, João Selva, a Portuguese remix of indie Brazilian band O Terno, a recent collaboration I did with Gabto (one of my favorite producers in the world), one unreleased joint from myself together with Gaspar Muniz,  another remix one he did with Beno for Banana Gold Records y mucho más. The mix was recorded at Caracol, on a dry and hot afternoon (despite being winter here) with Pioneer CDJs and an Isone420 mixer.” 

Big thanks to Millos for the mix, he will be playing for the first time in Canada and Japan in October and is soon to be releasing his first original music on Planet Trip Records.

Turkish Ladies is the complete mix of only Turkish female artists  from 60s and 70s. Mixtape is a result of digging and researching on women music from Turkey. It is a sound outcome of Ladies on Records project. I came to Turkey in September 2015 and have explored Turkish female music and the role of women in Turkish music in 60s and 70s.  Enjoy appreciated divas and undiscovered pearls of Turkish music, who I had pleasure to come across in dusty recordshops of Kadıköy and Eminönü (Istanbul).
