BOUNCE

The track opens with a vocal sample that immediately sets a playful yet commanding tone—like a charismatic emcee hyping up a crowd before the chaos unfolds. It’s rhythmically chopped and layered with subtle pitch modulation, giving it a swagger that feels both streetwise and futuristic. The vocal isn’t just a hook—it’s a signal. The sound design throughout is meticulous and immersive. I have spent hours sculpting each layer—from the tight, syncopated percussion to the morphing bass textures that evolve with each phrase. There’s a dynamic interplay between clean transients and gritty distortion, especially in the midrange, where the growls and stabs feel alive. The use of automation—filter sweeps, pitch bends, and stereo movement—creates a sense of motion that keeps you locked in. It’s not just heavy; it’s intelligent. Every sound feels like it has a purpose, and the transitions between sections are fluid without losing impact.

Then comes the drops—and they hit like a controlled explosion. The sub is deep and punchy, but it’s the interplay between the rhythmic bass hits and glitchy fills that really elevate it. There’s a bounce to it (pun intended) that feels danceable yet aggressive, like it’s daring the listener to move. The layering is tight: you’ve got high-end sparkle from the hats and FX, midrange growl from the bass, and a solid low-end foundation. Detroit’s Jason Hogans steps up for Alelah Records as the first producer from across the pond to offer their own unique set of house groove for the label. And what a groove we’re given; five tracks peruse through low-slung, synth-heavy beats pushed by infectious drum breaks. 

‘Why Keep Going’ is all about innocent synths in the mids met by some sleaziness in the low end. The basslines continue and on ‘Big Room Slaps’, it takes centre stage, making things real murky. ‘Dance While You Sleep’ combines a hard-hitting beat with a soft series of loose keys and a warm synth. 

‘Do Away With Borders’ is Hogan venturing into stranger territory: bass deep from the depths and filtered, floating keys come up to the surface while a drowned out sample bops its way into view as the track rolls. ‘Hazy Funk Slap’, finally, breaks out into a full on frenzy of jazz drums - naughty.

He clasped his hands together and looked upwards towards the sky. The stars flickered and danced up above, blissfully unaware of the perils down below on planet earth. Thankfully he was one of the lucky few who believed in something greater and something more. Heaven forbid he might think otherwise for then there would be little hope. He began to recite the words he'd been taught as a child many years ago, a wise prayer destined to fend off evil spirits and send them dancing into the night sky, all he had to do was believe. 

Dopeness Galore get the London hook up with the release of a stellar deep moving house cut of a track called "Believe". IG Culture reimagines the track for something destined for deep, dark basements under the guise of LCSM - Likwid Continual Space Motion.

MIMS is extremely excited to premiere the futuristic broken beat sounds of “Sweat”, by Contours & Werkha, their very first song together and the first taste of a collection of fresh collaborations curated by ANMA and Cognitiva Records.

"Sweat" sees the multi-talented Contours, following two acclaimed & sold out releases on ANMA, trading beats and synths with friend-since-childhood, Werkha, a producer who manages to turn all styles to his will, from broken beat to jazz and soul.

As Contours puts it "We had a framework for this track for a while, but both wanted to revisit it and ended up flipping the vibe into a more angular acid-tinged broken beat piece. Werkha brought a killer sound to the drum programming with chopped live kit samples."

Cognitiva and ANMA Records label bosses Piero Paolinelli (SofaTalk) and Angelo Mazzone (FootNote), have put together an absolute beast of a compilation. ‘Outlines’ is a snapshot of a new generation of exciting producers from across Europe, collaborating and mixing jazz, broken beat & house in exciting new ways.

10 tracks split into two parts on vinyl, featuring ones-to-watch Contours, Werkha, Footshooter, Allysha Joy, Karmasound, 291out and Domenico Sanna. ANMA and Cognitiva have not only curated the featured artists but have also instigated many of the collaborations featured.

You can also catch Werkha and Contours making their live debut as a duo this Friday as part of We Out Here's digital showcase. 

"Sweat" will be available to download on Bandcamp, and stream from all your favourite places, this Friday March 5. The 'Outlines' compilation can be pre-ordered now from the stores on the link above, and from Bandcamp this Friday, coinciding with their monthly fee-waiving day.
