London-based duo Kit Sebastian share their new single ‘Agitate’, a wake-up call from the ambiguous political position many find themselves in today. It is the first track to be taken from their forthcoming sophomore album, ‘Melodi', which is released 1st October on Mr Bongo. ‘Melodi' is a joyous expression of vibrant grooves and sophisticated lyricism that transcends boundaries, borders and social-cultural preconceptions. Those familiar with the band's cult classic 2019 debut record 'Mantra Moderne' will instantly recognise their unique take on world music, jazz and psychedelia. With this next album the duo have expanded their language and concepts and transposed them into something larger and more contemplative.

Written during the first UK lockdown and recorded that summer, ‘Agitate’ is a rallying-cry against pacification by the hegemony. It is a jolting recognition of how it feels being strongly opposed to social inequalities, yet not knowing how to rail against them in a society whose social history is deeply shaped around injustice. Idealising the past yet very selectively or safely remembering it. As the duo explain, "the song calls its listeners to remember, act against injustice and question figures of authority from our daily lives".

They weave a psychedelic tapestry of global influences, with ‘Agitate’ seeing them combining a rather stern Baroque harpsichord reminiscent of old Europe over an undercurrent of saxophones and a rhythm section influenced by global funk. The lyrics are sung in both English and Turkish, which adds another intriguing layer of depth to the track. A delicious taster of what is to come from a highly-anticipated album.

We are excited to premiere the beautiful and epic "Child - Part IV" by London's incredible Levitation Orchestra, forthcoming on Gearbox Records.

We swooped at the opportunity to premiere one of our favourite cuts from the forthcoming album by  Levitation Orchestra on Gearbox Records. We have been HUGE fans since their debut LP on Astigmatic and their phenomenal live show at London's Church of Sound.

Founded in 2018 by trumpet player & musical director Axel Kaner-Lidstrom, Levitation Orchestra was formed with the shared goal to create original suites of music completely collectively. A large, ever-changing ensemble, abundant in energy & focus, their captivating compositions truly come to life in the band's explosive live performances.


Words from Levitation Orchestra: "Child part IV" is the final part of a suite of music about childhood, lineage and loss. We were wrestling with illusions and realities around our perceptions of ourselves and how we could be just a grain of sand in a desert or a single thread in the ever-growing tapestry of the universe. But perhaps, through ancestry and dependency we could be linked with a greater cycle of being. How connected are we to those who came before and who will come after? "Part IV", the culmination of the suite, brings forward motifs of bright, new life, and sorrow and loss. Two parts of the cycle that are inextricably interwoven."

"Child - Part IV" is released on September 22nd. The album, 'Illusions & Realities', sees release on double-LP vinyl (including a limited Japanese edition with obi strip), CD and digital, on October 29.

It is the third track to be taken from their forthcoming sophomore album, ‘Melodi', which is released 1st October on Mr Bongo. ‘Melodi' is a joyous expression of vibrant grooves and sophisticated lyricism that transcends boundaries, borders and social-cultural preconceptions. The sultry 'Elegy For Love’ see’s the duo at their very finest. Sounding like a lost Outsider-Soul rarity arranged by Rogério Duprat with Vagif Mustafa Zadeh on the piano; the composition is truly unique. It is their most instrumentally diverse track, with glockenspiels, uplifting trumpets, sweeping strings and vocal melodies that sprinkle magic dust. 

The lyrics talk about a final late-night meeting of a couple as a last futile attempt to save their romance. It juxtaposes their fleshly pleasure with their emotional pain/sorrow, confusion and contempt in a small gloomy bedroom.

A modern day love story might go as follows: Lukas and Jonathan, two brothers running Berlin-based label Kommerz Records, started connecting with their favorite new jazz combo Triorität via IG without any business in mind, just to find out that they grew up in the same place – often overlooked, but damn cute city of Darmstadt. 
So why not just meet up during winter holidays in their parent’s garden (social distancing was still a thing in winter 2020) to sit around a fireplace and drink wine from daddy’s stack? A perfect start for a new friendship.

Noa Erni’s extraordinary debut “The Mental Traveller” hadn’t been released at that time, but the trinity of Triorität was immediately caught by Noa’s unpretentious chord play and the idea was born to create some live interpretations of his compositions. The Swiss-born producer and wine merchant (meet him at Friedenauer Weinhandlung) produced his obscure jazz and hip-hop atmospheres as a one man band hidden away in his home studio in Berlin. Childhood friends Triorität, on the contrary, developed their “dancefloor jazz” on stage and in the rehearsal room, finessing their very own melange of 70s fusion, disco as well as modern electronics and hip-hop. With their 2020 masterpiece “ALG0” they perfectly captured the stage powerplay on a 12” record, awarded with a co-sign by Gilles Peterson.

Fast forward into 2021: Ouvo Records, the imprint run by Triorität and DJ Ion, and Kommerz Records are best label buddies and their collaboration “The Mental Traveller - Triorität Session” came to life. Three songs of Noa Erni revisited by Triorität’s Alexander Hoffmann (drums), Gerrit Ebeling (keys) and Grégoire Pignède (bass) in their very own jazz fusion madness. Recorded in summer 2021 at Il Civetto studios in Berlin-Lichtenberg by Christ Hentz a.k.a. Hentzup and mastered by Mark Pfurtscheller, the full EP will be available on all digital platforms November 19th alongside a live video of the session.
