Now he brings his class to Crush On The Beachside and again shows off his love of Detroit house vibes. Opener 'Crush On The Beachside' is raw and intense with humid chords and jacked-up drums, then 'Shattered' brings more loose and jumbled beatdown grooves and 'Crush On The Beachside' (K15 remix) is then bubbly, jazzy and cuddly. 'Cracking' rounds out with more rich chord work and bristling drum funk.

Session Victim’s 5th studio album ‘low key, low pressure’ feels like an anathema to today’s fast-paced, industry driven musical landscape – and for all the right reasons!

Having released two intense, dancefloor-focused 12“s on Rhythm Section and Delusions of Grandeur over the past year, their return to Night Time Stories brings out their trippy, headsy side once again. And despite the pandemic downtime being over, Hauke & Matthias remain holed up in the studio, jamming, head nodding to drum breaks, and churning out records like the one in front of you.

Spanning 10 tunes – 12 if you count the limited bonus 7“ that comes with the first pressing – the LP is undiluted Session Victim, with their occasional trio partner Carsten ‘Erobique’ Meyer as the sole musical guest on the library-esque ‘Soft Landing’, a tune reminiscent of something the boys would try to hunt down on one of their compulsive record store rummages to feed it to their Akai’s. You’ll also find the sequel to one of their cornerstone tracks from their 2020 album Needledrop, Jazzbeat 07 - ‘Jazzbeat 08’. Having acquired a taste for the occasional cover version over the years, the duo closes the album out with their rendition of Instra:mental’s ‘Photograph’. Tackling such a classic is a daunting task which they approach in a gentle way, not swaying too far from the original, but subtly reimagining the rhythmical foundation and exchanging the distinctive playground sounds from the OG with field recordings of the locals who populate the gritty area around their Neukölln studio.

Being longtime fans of Swedish organ player Bo Hansson, Hauke and Matthias tried to reach out to the people responsible for his cover artwork who today are in their late eighties and have not answered ever since! But things came together in the most fortunate way when introduced to French artist Xavier d’espinay Saint Luc and his enchanting pencil wizardry. The outstanding result is the cover art that you see here.

This is ‘low key, low pressure’. It’s got pristine drum chops to zoom in, hazy melodies to zone out, and all the texture you need to lose yourself in the details.

Music and words for mind and soul. Label and collaborative musical collective, +33JOY announces its debut release, this first one from Bopperson & Bikbaye

Born out of a meeting at New York's annual Winter Jazz Festival, back in 2020, this 4 track EP entitled 'The Wellness Project' is a very personal project.

Neil Bopperson, a DJ, musician and producer originally from Yorkshire, having traveled the world working extensively as a DJ and chef, upon landing in London for a long stint, now works out of Paris, France.

Los Angeles based, Bikbaye Inejnema works as a cultural activist, writer, teacher, counselor and spoken word artist. He has a bachelor's degree in Sociology boasting over ten years experience in social work. He works as a A.T.O.D. (alcohol, tobacco & other drugs) prevention specialist for Homeless Healthcare based in L.A. He is also the Executive Director of The Conscious Youth Global Network (CYGN)

Bikbaye strives to utilize art to equip the youth with the skills to become positive, productive citizens. Focusing on diverse topics ranging from leadership development to financial literacy to health and nutrition, Bikbaye gives youth the tools they need to create empowered and enlightened content.

As Bikbaye says, "The goal is to flood the airwaves, the media, everywhere with enlightened art."

This first release on +33JOY comes in the form of a collaborative project, the music predominantly from Neil Bopperson, with a little help from some additional musicians - Sam Crowe; keys (Lianne La Havas, Little Simz, Mark Guiliana and Native Dancer) and the saxophone of Nick Briggs; (Joel Culpepper, Poté and The Last Skeptik). All words and vocals are from Bikbaye.

After a chance meeting in NYC, where Bikbaye hosted talks at The Winter Jazz Festival, speaking mainly about mental health and wellness in the music industry. His words really resonated with Neil, they connected and this 4 track EP is the outcome.

Sitting somewhere in the alternative hip hop world, music is used as a vessel for Bikbaye's words to ring out. Upon being presented with the recordings from Bikbaye, Neil composed music and collected sound design accordingly.

The second single, 'Who Are You?' raises important questions, directed at other artists and music industry professionals. Some flute, choir samples and drum loops come together for an eerie and dubbed out number.

The excellent sneaky jesus share an exclusive sneak peak into their highly anticipated second album, "For Chaching Taphed." Hailing from Wrocław, this boundary-pushing Polish jazz ensemble is known for their innovative approach to the genre.

“Piękno Niemożliwe”, showcasing the enchanting flute talents of Mariya Mavko (one part of Kadabra Dyskety Kusaje), transports listeners to the evocative realms of Polish and Ukrainian folklore through its captivating opening motif. This fleeting, tranquil interlude stands in stark contrast to the typically frenetic sounds of Sneaky Jesus, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the rich heritage of Polish jazz music intricately intertwined with folklore. The band ingeniously adopted and transformed this concept into their distinctive musical style.

Sneaky Jesus gained international recognition with their debut album, "For Joseph Riddle," in 2021, and they've since been on a relentless touring spree, sharing stages with renowned artists such as Ill Considered and Theon Cross.

Their latest creation, "For Chaching Taphed," was crafted in complete isolation within a rustic barn at the Museum of Agricultural Technology in Piotrowice Świdnickie. Surrounded by the hum of machinery, trucks, and carriages, the band found inspiration for their sophomore output, mirroring the abstract conversations they often engage in just for fun. In contrast to their groove-oriented debut, this album explores simplicity and allows for greater experimentation, resulting in a record filled with unexpected overdubs, tempo shifts, and mood changes.

Sneaky Jesus, formed in 2019 during a jam session at Zion, a former squat in Wrocław, brings together Matylda Gerber (sax), Maciej Forreiter (guitar), Filip Baczyński (drums), and Beniamin Łasiewicki (bass). In 2021, they signed with UK label Shapes of Rhythm and released "For Joseph Riddle," a release that exceeded all expectations with vinyl and CD sales soaring.

Following a live session recorded for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM, which featured compositions inspired by global events, Sneaky Jesus embarked on their busiest touring period, making appearances at renowned Polish clubs and festivals. They quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the leading jazz bands from Wrocław and among the most recognizable names in the new wave of Polish jazz.

Now, with the imminent release of "For Chaching Taphed" in September 2023, Sneaky Jesus is poised to conquer new horizons with upcoming shows in Germany and appearances at various jazz festivals across Poland. Welcoming back to the podcast, we have Sam Don to share and discuss his latest release, Just A Touch (Athens of the North, 2023) — the new compilation focusing on underground U.K Soul. Together, Aswad and Sam discuss the term ‘Street Soul’ and what it means to them, the culture, the impact it created in a short space of time. Sam shares the inspiration behind the project, working closely with artists to resurface these rare, and sometimes lost and forgotten music.
