Discover the sublime twilight electronica of STANLÆY, brain child and alter-ego of musician, producer, artist, and composer Bethany Stenning, via the soothing sounds of "Fragility". Accompanied by an intimate and almost ghostly video we are happy to share too.

We fell in love with the mixture of softly distorted ambient textures, minimal jazz guitar & keyboard chords and of course Bethany Stenning's distinctive voice, reminiscent of Joanna Newsom,

Bethany tells us that ‘Fragility’ is a track of introspection, twilight heartache and the importance of self love. Taken from forthcoming EP ‘p=arallel u=niverse’, consisting of solo music, written and recorded by Stenning, aka producer and musician STANLAEY, during the Coronavirus lockdown of 2020. Its sonic world explores experimental and electrical soundworld, and the philosophical concept of parallel realities. 

Bethany shared more insight into the song, EP and video. “This whole EP is a sort of linear reaction to the world over the past year. A sonic exploration of chaos and peace and the parts inbetween... this song Fragility is the more peaceful accepting side of things as opposed to the start of the EP which is more unsettled & chaotic. Fragility is about self acceptance in its most reduced form, that state where you are not tied to the masks of everyday ways of being or to how other people perceive you. Loving and accepting the chaos of humans, shedding tacit expectations. 

The video we wanted to keep fairly intimate and honest so myself and awesome cinematographer Jack Hayter filmed it together, just the two of us, one afternoon. I then edited the video and sent it to Sammy Martyr for additional FX as I've really loved his work for a while. It was exactly what the video needed to touch on the ideas and parallels of digital reality vs analogue. Of reality and pixelated ghost-hood. And I think both these talented humans bring out a new meaning to the song and to the word fragility in their visual additions to the music. Even more binaries.”

Exclusive Premiere: STANLÆY "Fragility" (Forthcoming on Stanlæy Art)

Electronics, dub techno, jazz, crunchy guitars and Afro-Brazilian percussion collide with propulsive energy on "Tamamduateí". The latest missive from MNTH, real name Luciano Valério, taken from his forthcoming self titled album on Mais Um Discos. 

30-min of music on cassette and digital, blistering with the energy  of São Paolo experimental musical underground. Supported by drummer, composer and fellow experimental artist M.Takara (Pharoah Sanders, Damo Suzuki, Rob Mazurek), Grammy-nominated engineer, Fernando Sanches and co-produced by Psilosamples.

“I put more of myself on this record. I wanted it to sound like something new”. As co-founder of influential label, Desmonta, MNTH, (pronounced Mantega - Portuguese for ‘butter’), has been a pivotal figure in Brazil’s underground scene for the best part of two decades. Initially set up to release Takara’s 2007 album Conta, Desmonta and Valério went on to sign soon seminal albums by deconstructive candomblê-punk trio, Metá Metá, and provide a regular home for Takara’s frequent and varied output over the years, as well as Valério’s own debut project, a split cassette release with Tildaflipers back in 2015, and his work with guitarist Marco Nalesso as Nalesca Mantega.

Born and raised in Cecap, a neighbourhood 30 minutes north-east of central São Paolo, located within the region of Guaralhos, Valério grew up across the road from apocalyptic samba guitar ogã Kiko Dinucci, whose dynamic first and third LPs were released by Valério on Desmonta. ” Both of us were into skateboarding, metal and then punk. Kiko was the guy that put a guitar in my hand. He taught me. Then said “come play 2nd guitar in my band.”

Having recorded the majority of tracks back in 2014-15, Valério shelved the album, only deciding to re-visit the recordings during the pandemic. For this edition Mais Um have added three additional bonus tracks, including two previously unreleased remixes by Psilosamples and Desmonta label artist, Dandrea.

Safe to say we are loving this whole release and it was hard to pick a a favourite to premiere. Can't wait to throw the cassette into the tape deck! The full release is due on April 30, on cassette and digital.

Exclusive Premiere: MNTH "Tamamduateí" (Forthcoming on Mais Um Discos)

We’re thrilled to welcome back Montreal’s OJPB (aka Bowly) to Lazy Days following his brilliant 2018 Lucy’s Stomp EP. OJPB’s music has a very singular poetic voice, equally influenced by Detroit, Chicago and early UK Grime/2-Step Garage as well as taking inspiration from french cinéma and littérature. As a DJ, OJPB became a firm favorite on the Montreal local scene with his unique eclectic style ranging from Techno, House, Disco and Breaks. Recently, he played at 24 Hours of Vinyl, Pik Nic Electronik for the 15 Years of Lazy Days and has a forthcoming Mutek set in a few weeks.

The EP opens with Théodore Le Fou, a dreamy cinematic Deep House number that also features an obligatory remix by Fred Everything. Phonétik digs deeper into his UK influences with tight drum programming, cut up sampled vocals and those lovely strings. Ottomatik closes the EP in style with a broken beat rhythm, strings and rhodes melodies.
