For the eight year, I’ve been putting together this mix which is a personal selection / exploration of healing and transformative music: songs that have a deep sense of spirituality without being religious in nature. A feeling that can be found in music of all genres, eras and cultures.

On a usual year anywhere on the planet, a beautiful spring morning feels like a precious gift. However these past 12 months have been anything but usual. I would like to dedicate this mix to all that have lost loved ones, faced difficulties and personal challenges.

Ahead of Saturday’s Dane’s Dance Emporium x Voyage Funktastique session this Saturday at Performance Works, we asked Walla P to contribute a mix to our Pacific Spirit series. 

As predicted, he did not disappoint! In our opinion (and many others) Walla P is one of the purest and most talented DJs in the funk, disco, and boogie sphere, and we can’t wait to see him do his thing here in Vancouver for the first time.

Here are a few words about his mix from the man himself…

“For this guest mix, I got inspired by listening to some of the previous mixes, lots of atmospheric/ambient grooves from records that came out over the last decade or so. Lots of stuff you don’t get to usually play, but I like to think that this could be the soundtrack for my flight to Vancouver.”

I have been releasing this mix dedicated to Spring for the past 4 years and it's quickly become one of my favorite projects.

Of course, the magic of springtime is a fairly universal feeling but I think in cities submerged in winter 5 months a year like my hometown of Montreal, it means just a little more. We've earned it just a bit more.

So here is the 4th edition of my Spring mix: Dedicated to that feeling of opening the windows for the first time, pulling the bike ride out of the garage, having a drink outdoors, wearing just one layer of clothing.

Dedicated to my mom who I miss every first day of spring.

SPRINGTIME SPIRITUAL Mix Vol. 4 (2017) - Hand-picked by Lexis

For the 7th year now I have been marking the arrival of Spring with this spiritual mix which has become the project that is closest to my heart. In case you're wondering, in Montreal springtime arrives in April - seems like our 6 month winters steal a month of autumn and one from spring.

All year long, I save song ideas in a little notepad just for my Spring mix, it's the only DJ mix that is truly on my mind all year long. It is an exploration of spirituality in all its musical forms, jazz to house to reggae and more.

For me, it's also a form of catharsis and annual goal post marking another year of growth, challenges. I hope this year's edition can provide some inspiration, solace and happiness. I wish you all well during these challenging times.
