2016 just saw another Legend pass away. Kashif Saleem, previously known as Michael Jones, was one of the most prolific producers in the 1980's, producing for acts such as Melba Moore, Evelyn Champagne King, Withney Houston, Howard Johnson and George Benson, just to name a few.

On a personal note, Kashif's music is the ultimate reason why I am the Dj that I aspire to be - the 1st time I heard "I Just Got To Have You (Lover Turn Me On) was one of the greatest musical discovery, if not the greatest, that I encountered - that Moog Bass, those guitar licks, that snare variation on the 8th, the arrangements, the lyrics. I was captivated. Forever. Today, I'm even more convinced that Kashif Changed My Life. Rest In Power Kashif Saleem.

When I found out about the passing of Colonel Abrams I was quite shocked and shaken.

Not only did I realize that one of my most treasured musical hero was gone but I was saddened because of all the struggles he had gone through over the last few years. His legacy is totally impressive. From being into independent soul bands (like 94 East which a certain Prince was also part of) in the seventies to be signed to MCA and having major hits records in the eighties, Colonel and his production team were silent players in introducing a new breed of music. As Disco was fading away from the mainstream, a new form of uptempo R&B was emerging from the NYC / New Jersey area at the same time people from Chicago were experimenting different things. The first two demos of Colonel Abrams became totally essential years after they were made because they had the foundations and all the elements of something that was about to blow out : House music.

Welcome to the Word Is Love Show and on the show it's a celebration of the Godfather of Dance music itself David Mancuso.

David invented the first "by invitation only" parties in New York City with the very first party "Love Saves The Day" in 1970 that went on to become The Loft. 

The show is the first part of 2 shows that celebrates the 50th anniversary of "Love Saves The Day".

Being thrown down is classic Disco, Funk, Rare Groove, Latin and Soul, plus a selection of Worldwide delights that David used to play.

Expect classic tracks by Earth Wind & Fire, Mr. Fingers, James Brown, Central Line and Eddy Grant. 

The mix was performed 'Shooting from The Hip', a style of cut mixing and blend mixing to give it that extra authenticity.
