To continue the series of my all time favourit artists I am chuffed to share 75min of listening pleasure from Sebastian Mullaert (aka Minilogue) with you. What a yummy Santa Claus surprise :)

Thank you for all the great music you have created and the goosebumps and joy you have given us through your excellent sound! And for taking the time to inspire us with your very interesting and meaningful interview answers.

Interview:
1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?

Sebastian: I try to live a life where I have the possibility to be reminded about my being and at the same time be able to remind other beings about their being. You could say that it's an invitation of the being to the being to be ... Might sound stupid but at the moment I feel that this is the only true meaning there is. I try to let this be the intention behind everything I do; both in my daily life, my zen practise and my creative work in the studio and when I'm performing music on stage.
Like most beings I meet on this journey I also have loads of habitual patterns and unbalances that can be a hinder in keeping this pure intention strong all the time, patterns that I'm unaware about that hinder me and my surrounding to express creativity. Being aware and see this and also gather the strength and faith to face what I most of all want to escape is part of this practise, my daily life with my wife and two children, my zen practise and my creative work in the studio are all amazing ways to do this. This is the life I have right now and I'm thankful for getting this opportunity to let freedom take place; within and outside ... "This is not really a “dj” mix…the styles are too diverse to make any coherent segueing possible except on a couple of occasions, with music ranging from the dark melancholic experimentalism of Einstürzende Neubauten to the uplifting polyrhythmic songs of Zawose Queens…and a multitude of styles in between. 

In my opinion a wide range of styles fits the purpose of radio better than a DJ mix…but, in truth, I’m probably just finding an excuse to justify the many moods I’m experiencing lately. And I bought a new A9 mixer recently which allows for an external effects send so I plugged in my Space Echo pedal which I usually use with live shows and tried to blend the unblendable behind a wash of delays and feedback! I hope you enjoy the journey."

Philipp Otterbach is a man who likes to collect, collate and construct sound, refracting experiences into deep pulsing resonances. One of the earliest residents of Düsseldorf's infamous Salon des Amateurs way back in 2004, Philipp ran the Substance parties with Vladimir Ivkovic for many years. His organic, idiosyncratic sound was subsequently found pressed to black plastic on Essen’s Grokenberger Records and, a little later, The Hague’s Tour Messier label with his latest release finding the light on DT fave Knekelhuis. These days Philipp might be found behind the decks of a party in Berlin, such as the Griessmuehle or ://about blank and will be joining the DT crew at DT Camp this August. We stole some time with Philipp to talk about his work, his sound and his upcoming projects and releases.

To say we are "excited" to get this phenomenal album by Double Geography out would be a monumental understatement - it has been on rotation here at INVINC HQ pretty much constantly for a couple of months now and still never ceases to amaze and impress. 

Double Geography is Duncan Thornley, one half of Weird Weather who have released on Emotional Response, Going Good and their own Whip+Lash imprint, exploring sometimes hypnotic, sometimes abstract experimental tech-tronica. 

Double Geography, however, takes us deep into the undergrowth, into the world of plants. With tracks named after a variety of flora the music could loosely be described as laidback ‘balearica'. However, where much of that genre (if it can even be called a genre) has spawned so much insipid, mediocre coffee table ‘lounge music', The Indoor Gardener has retained that crucial element of tripped out psychedelia that transports us just that little bit higher. 

The music feels warm, melodic, emotive.....but listen closely and underneath the surface is a complex depth where you'll find a lot more is going on and it gives the whole piece of work an edginess undeniably synthetic in nature. Like an organic, analogue paradise re-imagined through the mind of an artificial intelligence. The atmospheres created being less a hazy "dreaminess" than a dreamlike cinematic soundtrack to a mystical reality. 

Technical wizardry is also very much apparent. Thornley's day job as an audio engineer has paid off well here. The unique character of many of the sounds we're hearing seem as rich, complex and diverse as the natural world that inspired their creation. His mastery of the equipment at his fingertips is obvious. 

So relax, take a deep breath and take a wander round this botanic paradise - a psychedelic Garden of Eden for the 21st century.
