Vancouver's @djhockey brings a sense of playfulness, groove, and emotion to a realm of psychedelic, twisted techno that can often take itself too seriously. He regularly appears at Vancouver venues like Dolly and recently played at the inaugural Osmosis in the Trees festival in Oregon. In addition to DJing, he co-runs record label and mix series @pprzrecords alongside Adam 2, uplifting emerging artists from across the underground and most recently releasing his own latest EP, Celestial Pursuit.

"This mix combined parts of various gigs I was working on that fell through. The gigs had quite differing musical lineups and set times, which I combined with some tracks that had been sitting in my wishlist on Bandcamp but never seen a fit for a particular project as of yet. It quickly turned into my favourite mix I’ve created thus far, as I feel it closely represents my favourite aspects of dance music all in one.

I have been working on trying to incorporate a wider range of my style into my podcasts so that each one doesn’t get tunnel vision, while still telling a slow burning story. I’ve also been pushing myself to make each individual blend something unique. Lots of tracks work well together, but is it something special and new? These are questions I have been asking myself more lately. I like the playfulness of this mix, but it also has moments where you may question what emotion you’re feeling."

Hailing from Minneapolis. Jobot has been mixing records and promoting electro and related music since the early 2000s. He draws from a diverse sonic palette — elements of electro and techno, 303s and FM basslines, 4/4 chuggers and fragmented breakbeats — combined with a selector’s ear and, hopefully, a bit of a sense of humor.  italo b-side over some dub techno that’s 30 years newer — why not, if it works it works !!  A long time veteran of techno mecca Detroit’s annual festivities, favorite musical experiences as of late include Interdimensional Transmissions’ No Way Back, I-F’s perspective expanding Intergalactic FM Festival in The Hague NL, and Intellephunk and Enemy Records’ excellent hypnotic techno campout The Great Beyond in rural Minnesota.

Polito are a group of musicians who have just released a new album called ‘Collapse Phase’. The record is self described as “a meeting of improvised contemporary dance and live improvised techno music, working together to create entrancing performance experiences”.

Drawing upon a broad array of influences the music has a number of multifaceted touch points – Dub, Techno, IDM, House and the spaces in between are all explored through a unique approach driven by live improvisation and collaboration.

Polito is a collaboration between musicians Robert Downie and Finnian Langham, and dancers Arabella Frahn-Starkie and Hillary Goldsmith.

This mixtape showcases their diverse approach to sound design and helps to build a narrative around the group and what their music means.
