Podcast Nr. 81 is contributed by the Amsterdam-based Kaap. After following the man for a decent time you are undoubtedly confronted with a musical versatility not many manage to uphold.

His seemingly inexhaustible source of inspiration has spilled out numerous projects that all cover widely different areas of the spectrum. Whether it’s steaming dub techno output for AEX, improvisational performances as part of Working Titles, or a breaky maneuver for his co-founded label ‘De Lichting’, the sense of nuance and detail never lacks.

The recording he’s provided resembles the mentioned versatility and we’re very happy to share it with you.

Placid_88 gives us an education in Deep House. A mix comprised of 90's U.S. House, yes the real stuff. The sound-definition of the long contested sub-genre, finally gets the clarification it deserves. Deep from start to finish, this mix takes you on a journey through the groove, introducing you to things you may not have heard before; Placid_88 calls it The Gateway Mix.

"I've been buying electronic music since 1989 and I'm still in love with it. Resident DJ for one of London’s longest running Acid house nights, behind a 14.5k Facebook group for crate diggers called We’re Going Deep, and I'm just about to release the first 12” under a label with the same name [We're Going Deep]."

"About the mix, while a lot of the UK was dancing away to UK hardcore, I was immersing myself in the rich immersive sounds of U.S. house. This mix is a peek into those sounds. Mostly from the early 90's but with a few newer ones. I tried to maintain the depth and warmth those records give. I called it a gateway mix as I intend to use it to introduce people to the sound of house, though they may not like it for one reason or another. Time will tell if it works or not".

A past Perdition guest and one of our favourite producers, Derek hails from Ireland and has been churning out some incredible house and techno records over the past two decades. In this podcast, he showcases his signature space-themed sound: deep, atmospheric and rich with Detroit-flavoured grooves alongside a heap of acid and electro woven in for good measure. Germany's XDB has been DJing since the early 90s, and his creative growth enhances this decisions of what labels and musicians he chooses to collaborate with. After years of working in a record shop, he launched his Metrolux label. XDB is garnering the overdue attention of popular writers and fellow musicians with releases and remixes for Aaron Carl (rip), Norm Talley and Patrice Scott on quality labels like Franccois K's Wave Music, Echocord, AIM, Dolly and Patrice Scott's Sistrum to name a few

@derekcarr has been producing and releasing Detroit-tinged electronic music for almost two decades. He has recently released music on labels such as ‘for those that Knoe’, @subwax-bcn-distribution, ‘Ferox’, @craigie-knowes and @firescopemusic. 
Born and raised in Westmeath, Ireland, Derek got an early taste for finely crafted melodic techno through compilations like Network’s "Bio-Rhythms" and Warp’s "Pioneers of the Hypnotic Groove". Having been a fan of bands such as Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode through his formative years, Derek felt drawn to this new sound coming from Detroit, Sheffield and Leeds.
Recognising the home made ‘punk’ ethos of early ‘Bleep techno’ he began to pick up second hand instruments, initially investing in a cheetah sampler and boss drum machine.
Derek then set about creating his own sound, a sound that owed much to the techno pioneers, B12, the Black Dog, As One, Nexus 21 and Rhythmatic to name but a few.
In 2001 Derek launched his own label "Trident Recordings" and released the "Copper Beech e.p." (the only release to date) a collection of deep soulful techno. Only 500 copies were pressed and it has since become something of a collector’s item.
Subsequent releases on "Digital Soul" and "Geek Records" further cemented Carr’s place amongst a new generation of techno producers that looked to combine soul and melody with electronic dancefloor grooves.
Derek Carr has built a worthy reputation for producing stunning deep techno and delivering quality DJ and Live sets across Europe.
