Continuing his exploration of intricate techno systems, their effect and direct perimeter of action, Peter Van Hoesen turns in his newest four-track piece, ‘Prime Directive’: a fascinating dive into the artist’s shape-shifting headspace and inner creative chaos.

Fuelled on a furnace-hot mix of abstract-leaning immersion and hi-octane rhythmic thrust, ‘Prime Directive’ looks at contemporary techno from the angle of experimentation and intuitive abandon. The result comes in the form of four distinct movements, each carving out their own logic and associated behaviour out an endless pool of potentialities. Here comes chaology unfolding in all its unadulterated, visceral glory.

‘Definition by Absence’ breaks the trip in to the sound of a faux-random symphony: its train-like swing and fiery bass seesaw coalesce through an elliptic fluttering of sorts, iterative and not, patterns moving in and out of synchronicity as Van Hoesen applies more or less pressure on both ends. All in gusty in-your-face-ness, ‘Variables Edit 1’ whirls and swirls like an ominous vengeance of nature; Its puncturing kicks and whistling menace set against stellar winds and rabid machinery on the prowl for its next victim.

An even more unsettling piece of disjointedly arrhythmic, anti-club music for the dance floor, ‘Prime Directive’ will have you zoning out like a bad dream, flush with metronome-faced monsters and molten clocks hanging from dead trees. ‘Morphology’ could be PVH’s attempt at giving his concepts a carnal carcass to hold onto. Here, rhythm becomes somewhat less erratic, offering his 360-degree vision more melodic surface and actual room for dispersion. One to keep the boundaries pushed and status-quo challenged, this is techno at its most entrancingly bold and fearless.

Set the Mood with Diepzeebeest!

I am truly excited to have Diepzeebeest involved in this series. From the moment I first heard their sound, I was immediately captivated. Their latest release on Float is a perfect example of why they deserve this spot and why I believe everyone should hear their music.

Diepzeebeest loves to explore their inner experience, diving deep into uncomfortable feelings and capturing them in their productions. This process is often subconscious, unfolding while they record sounds from their hardware and software instruments. Turning these recordings into tracks then becomes more of a curation, where meaning is consciously discovered. When approaching the recording for Oefenmeesters Set The Mood, they envisioned it as an introduction to the introspective and driving techno they gravitate toward. The set hints at the depths to come while remaining inviting enough for listeners to ease in. As a final track, they chose a slight outlier—a last moment to surface and breathe before the next set takes the audience even deeper, eyes closed, letting go.

Diepzeebeest (they/them) is a producer and live artist from Rotterdam, exploring the depths of hypnotic techno with releases on Float, Immaterial Archives, and Dynamic Reflection, among others.

'I wanted to find a common ground between my recent musical explorations and the well-polished 4x4 formula. You'll hear hypnotic sequences, atmospheric vocals, broken beats, and while the tempo isn’t blistering, the bass is guaranteed to rattle some glasses'.

Fresh blood from Poznań. So far invited by Ciało in Wrocław, Dom Technika, the now-closed Projekt Lab and HUB 5 in his home city. Though he still has more dancefloor experience than booth experience, he nurtured his style while staying under the radar for a couple of years. A lover of diverse techno flavors, with a special preference for raw, dirty sounds. Always striving to create a psychedelic atmosphere in his mixes, recently he more often breaks the steady 4x4 diving deeper into experimental influences. Among his inspirations, he mentions artists like Blawan, Temudo, Holden Federico, and Franz Jager. At the booth there's only one rule - It's groovy till it's groovy.

At its core, this mix is an exploration of emotions, guided by pulsating, repeating frequencies that weave a subtle yet intense narrative. She started her journey with electronic music 1.5 years ago with a music production course at Instytut Dźwięku school in Wrocław, Poland. After delving into the ins and outs of production, she eventually decided to also step behind the decks. As a producer, she mostly creates ambient and techno, crafting tracks rich in progressive atmospheres and spatial depth. On stage, her style evolves into more groovy sounds infused with hypnotic undertones, and a touch of subtle darkness. Despite finding herself as a DJ and producer, lately she's been trying her hand as a promoter - launching original projects, organizing events, and collaborating with renowned collectives and organizations such as @tech-room29 and @instytuttechno Dźwięku. She has performed in clubs all over Poland, including: Ciało, Transformator, CEL, STK, Hala Odra, Noce, Drugi Dom.
