2017 Prog & Techno tracks

Making a long overdue return to their own label is My Favorite Robot, the Canadian duo who offer up two brand new tracks and a third re-edit.
 
Jared Simms and Voytek Korab have built up an assured discography on this label as well as Hypercolour, Visionquest and No.19 Music, all at the same time as gigging around the world and A&Ring likeminded synth craftsmen to release on their revered eponymous imprint. Their own sound is mature and musical, and brings real emotion to their sleek dancefloor grooves.

First up here is the fantastic ‘Want Some,’ a tune as confrontational as the name suggests, with a prying bass synth zipping about under crisp hits and hats. Rooted by rich kick drums, trademark melodic pads and skittish, steppy keys shoot about up top to bring a sleek cosmic feel. The result is brilliantly dramatic and futuristic.

Then comes ‘Think Anymore’, an ever-more direct track but again one with a rasping bassline and whole ecosystem of melodies, keys and pads that bring real light to the track. It’s high tempo, tight and sure to kick start any floor that hears it. A re-edit of the same track closes out the EP, and does so with a more playful feel thanks to the layers of dancing piano chords and broad synth drones that get carefully added in. Like the soundtrack to a police chase, it’s fun yet urgent and widescreen.

This is another briliantly well crafted offering from one of dance music's most skilled studio outfits.

Nuno dos Santos’ boutique label SoHaSo (shorthand for Something Happening Somewhere; although, sadly the same can no longer be said of Trouw) has been cruising steadily for the best part of two years now, but "Tonii" might just be the best thing committed to wax yet. Love Over Entropy's 12m original is sturdy with bright flourishes throughout, forever climbing and searching without resolve; techy without, y'know, being techy. 

This retouch comes from none other than Innervisions' main man, although  less overtly lovelorn than we've come to expect. He  twists the lead melody into something resembling a steel pan drum, backed by laser-guided synths pinging all around: a festival-sized breakdown held just at the precipice, never fully cresting. Dixon, you big tease.

Influenced by elements of African culture Owlephant is a perfect blend of those beautiful traditional sounds as well as voices of soothing wild life while keeping modern touch to it with it's warm basslines and groovy atmospheric melodies. 

Meanwhile with track "Kalopsia" Onur shows his other side as he goes deeper with beautiful oriental instrument sounds mixed with dub synth and creates extraordinary melodic groove.

First remix is presented by San Francisco based artist Mark Slee, making his return on Submarine Vibes after remixing Petros Odin & Mattik. His new remix of Owlephant is a marvellous , true deep house track with catchy riffs and warm grooves. 

Second Remix is done by Switzerland based Disko Dario Making his debut appearance on Submarine. His remix of Owlephant is simply stunning piece, resembling his unique signature style full of gripping warmth and melancholic sounds."

Dutch prolific artist Reinier Zonnerveld had a fantastic 2016. 'Things We Might Have Said' was one of the tracks of the year but he released a lot of great stuff in labels like Stir Von Talent among many others. He delivered a great work with his remix for Moby’s 'Natural Blues' as well and finally, here we have his official debut EP on the kitties label. Four techno tracks with different atributes: dreamy, muscled, epic, powerful, deep, melodic and dirty feelings inside of them. Up-to-date techno music of one of the men of the moment.
