Toronto trio, My Favorite Robot look to the release of their debut compilation, featuring a diverse and enticing mix of entirely exclusive music from some of the hottest electronic producers around…

Jared Simms, James Teej & Voytek Korab AKA My Favorite Robot have quietly been positioning themselves as one of Canada’s hottest exports in recent years. Releases on label such as Visionquest, Crosstown Rebels and Sasha’s Last Night on Earth, as well their own eponymously titled imprint, have seen the Robots become central figures in dance music’s ever shifting landscape, whilst their label showcases and guest slots at the likes of BPM, DC10 and Miami’s WMC have left no doubt as to the trio’s talents. With this level of success comes a network of friendships and working relationships and it is to these that My Favorite Robot have turned for the compiling of their debut mix album. Not content with a mix of licensed tracks featuring one or two exclusives, the Toronto three-piece have reached out to their industry friends and have put together a stunning album of entirely exclusive tracks.

‘Crossing Wires 001’ takes both its title and its inspiration from the broad range of musical styles and sounds that make up its 15 separate parts. The My Favorite Robot ethos has always been firmly rooted in an eclectic approach to music with the label and act bringing through elements of electro, techno, house, nu-disco and electronica. For ‘Crossing Wires’ Simms, Teej and Korab have brought on board a truly diverse selection of artists ranging from techno stalwart Alan Fitzpatrick through to disco aficionados The Revenge and encompassing everything from the mid tempo electro-disco of Jori Hulkkonen to the pulsating techy excellence of Eric Volta. There are obviously highlights in the three tracks which featured on the recent sampler, The Revenge’s ‘Maia’, Timo Maas’ ‘Dancing for my Pleasure’ and James Teej’s ‘I Like to Clip’ but the quality on this mix in no way stops there as the Robots offer up gem after gem of brand new exclusive material. The chugging brilliance of Stefan Z’s ‘Love Tonight’, the subtly uplifting ‘They Wos’ by Inxec & Droog and the intense and hypnotic Nitin & Clayton Steele remix of Fairmont’s ‘Libertine’ all offer wonderfully different elements in a mix that genuinely sees the electronic threads of MFR’s vision woven into a unique audio tapestry. 

‘Crossing Wires 001’ is a truly original and inspiring electronic selection that is a testament to its many contributors and its three-headed selector and should keep music lovers happy for the summer months to come. As if that wasn’t enough there is a My Favorite Robot artist album in the pipeline for release on Jonny White’s No.19 Music label in the autumn leaving us with plenty to look forward to from Toronto’s finest.

Saytek and Mark Gwinnett's Cubism label is coming to The Shelter (East London) on Saturday 15th August for an Intimate Session, so we've got a free download ('Homage to the Godfather') only for you.

Off the back of gigs in Room 2 of Fabric and The Source (Maidstone), the label has chosen a more snug den of iniquity for a residents party featuring a live set from Saytek, who's currently prepping material for a third 'Live At Cubism' project.

Also joining the co-boss Mark Gwinnett and the residents is Barber, who helped commit 'Medicate/Meditate' (https://soundcloud.com/cubism-records/saytek-barber-medicate) to the label earlier this year. Gaining props from Steve Lawler and reaching the Tech House Top 30 on Beatport, it's a groovy badboy to say the least.

Pioneers of emerging artists, Jamie Jones and Lee Foss have signed rising star The Golden Boy to their imprint Emerald City for the first release of 2017. The UK producer has found the perfect home for ‘Egyptian Lover’ whilst industry heavyweight Saytek and rising producer Latmun provide
remixes.

The Golden Boy said of Egyptian Lover, “This track is a statement of what is to come from me in 2017 and I can't wait for everyone to hear it."
The Golden Boy aka Dominic Hammonds had a momentous 2016 after releasing on Glasgow Underground, MadTech, Love & Other and Nothing Else Matters whilst extensively touring Europe. Heavily supported by his fell ow DJ peers, ‘ Egyptian Lover’ is a prime example of his tight production.

Last year saw Latmun catapulted into the spotlight after mastering his craft through releases on VIVa and Wow! Recordings and displaying his ability to captivate the crowd through extensive touring and residencies in
the Midlands, including Stealth in Nottingham.

Premiere: Saytek - Happy Ending (Original Mix)

The always artful My Favorite Robot label is branching out with a brand-new sister imprint. Entitled MFR Red, it will deal in single track, club focussed releases that place importance on DJ functionality and dance floor impact. The Canadian duo themselves are behind the fantastic first release.

Jared Simms and Voytek Korab make up this Toronto outfit and this is their first release since the excellent Want Some EP in Spring 2017. Known for their emotive, vocal laced tracks that always come resplendent with smart synth work and a timeless feel, this new cut finds them in a more direct and dance floor aligned mood.

The intriguingly entitled ‘Femur Loveseat’ is a crisp and stark electro track. It has shimmering synths laid over the menacing groove and as it wiggles along they morph into pixelated notes that dance round the scale. The result is a track with dark energy and a serene sense of futurism that elevates it above mere tool.

This is a great way to start what is sure to become an essential new label for DJs and dancers alike.

Toronto’s My Favorite Robot Records look to the second remix package taken from Farimont’s superb recent album ‘Automaton’…
 
Fairmont’s third studio album ‘Automaton’ was released on My Favorite Robot Records in 2012 to a rapturous response from fans and press alike. The deft fusion of vocal indie tinged songs with richly layered electronica had producers lining up to remix tracks from the LP leading to not one but two remix singles featuring album highlights remixed by the great and the good. Part one saw an outstanding selection that featured an epic remix from Ewan Pearson amongst others, now the second package is ready to drop with a killer remix selection.
 
The EP kicks off with the holy pairing of Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris under their It’s a Fine Line moniker who take ‘Creatures of the Night’ and rework it into a robotic and glitch electro influenced offering. Metronomic clicks and bleeps blend with rich bass and syncopated rhythms to provide a solid bed for Fairmont’s spacey vocal deliver, quality stuff. Next up we have the excellent Nhar who gives ‘Sara’ a makeover, coming up with a blissful, balaeric house workout that is pure audio pleasure, an unmissable laid back gem that is essential listening for the summer ahead.
 
Remix duties for ‘Waiting’ fall to label bosses and Canadian super heroes My Favorite Robot who strip the original back and rebuilt it as a pulsing, dark slice of electronica replete with brooding pads and angular synths, sublime. The package is closed with another Canadian pairing, this time between No.19 Music owner Nitin and Clayton Steele who take ‘Libertine’ and twist it into a piece of brilliant percussive techno.
 
Another winner from My Favorite Robot record, so no surprises there then!
