Whilst Tim Paris’ excellent recent album on My Favorite Robot is still picking up plenty of praise,the label have invited a carefully hand picked selection of remixers to turn in their own version of three different tracks. Red Axes, Nyma, App and Jon Charnis & Hands Free are the chosen ones and the results are brilliant.

Up first on ‘The Grip’, Red Axes are a DJ and production duo based in Tel Aviv, Israel, formed byDori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi who have previously released on Relish, Klasse and I'm A Cliché.Their remix is a steely, darkened disco affair with reverb coated guitar licks and chugging drums coming over like the soundtrack to some Hells Angels get together in the woods.

Next Up Nyma hails from Tehran but lives in Berlin and has found favour with his originals on Magda and Troy Pierce’s Items & Things. His take on ‘Disco Ellipse’ is a supple bit of techno with plenty of minimal sound design fleshing out the bouncy, futurist groove. It grows ever more intense as hypnotic blurts of synth come into the mix, and will drive dance floors deep into the night.

Tackling ‘Extreme Nails’ first is App aka Watergate’s Peter Pixzel and August Jakobsen, who have fomented their own melodic tech house style with releases on Diynamic and a great live show to boot. Their trippy, late night mix is full of inventive charm, busy drum patters and celestial melodies that bubble up through the track as it squirrels on. It’s a loopy, rolling number that will sound perfect on the DC10 dance floor this summer.

Also remixing the same track is American house duo Jon Charnis & Hands Free. Their version flips the original into a blissed out bit of twinkling, melodically rich deep house that needs to be heard on a beach under the stars. It’s emotive and tender and beautifully sensitive.These four unique re-workings all add something very new and different to the originals and prove as ever that My Favorite Robot really has its finger on the pulse.

The My Favorite Robot label is happy to announce the release of their next full-length album from an artist that has been close to the label for some time. 

The inimitable Tim Paris has had his own unique voice in the underground scene of his hometown in Paris for years, with highly influential labels like Items&Things, Kompakt, Pets Recordings and many others coming calling for his work. Also part of It's A Fine Line with Ivan Smagghe and boss of the Marketing Music label, Paris has proved himself an adept producer of dancefloor tracks in the past (and a highly sought after remixer, reworking artists including Silicone Soul, Tiga, and The xx) but for his hotly anticipated debut LP, he takes it to the next level and crafts a over album full of songs. Dancers features plenty of exciting collaborations with artists from an array of musical backgrounds, including Georg Levin, half of Wahoo with Dixon and a BBE and Sonar Kollektiv associate, Parallel Dance Ensemble's vocalist Coco Solid, Sex Judas – a mysterious but frequent collaborator with Tim, and Ben Shemie from fast rising Canadian band The Suuns as well as Forrest, someone very much about to breakthrough in his own right. Together they have crafted a stand out album that joins the dots between indie dance, post punk, electro and house music.

Captivating opener ‘Golden ratio’ sets the tone for the album with plenty of raw guitar licks and live sounding drums. Levin’s vocals help the track to soar out of its rugged indie framework before ‘Rain’ ups the ante once more with some tobacco stained New Wave influences, dubby pads and and kinetic drum work. It’s an enthralling start to proceedings that takes you many different places and does so in style. The excellent ‘Outback, Stones and Vinyl’ then sets a more downtempo mood helping to ensure there is a coherent narrative throughout. Plenty of analogue machines and real instruments help colour in the slowed track and the result is a slow and mutant indie licked Italo track with a very real hedonistic spirit. Elsewhere tracks like ‘Minreich’ sound like modern Kraut reworks, whilst ‘Extreme Nails’ is a more peak time and progressive number that twists and turns for its duration… wherever you look there are musical gems hidden away, all helping to make this record arresting and rewarding experience. As a listening experience this album is excellent – far more than just a collection of tracks it has suitable peaks and troughs along the way to ensure you really feel like you are going somewhere. Moreover, its not just tempos that change, but style sand genres too, from the indie leaning stuff to the more overtly electronic fair, Dancers is an album that very much sticks to Paris’ own unique and hybridised agenda, excelling as a result.

Lord Of The Isles makes a welcome return to Phonica with the double A side 12” ‘Greane’ and ‘Gigha’!

The prolific Lord Of The Isles (aka Scotland’s Neil McDonald) has had a string of stunning 12”s over the past few years on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Unthank, Shevchenko, Mule and of course his four track ‘Year Of The City EP’ on Phonica, which was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2012.

This time LOTI presents two long-form tracks, each a mini-masterpiece in itself. The 10 minute plus ‘Greane’ bursts into life after an intro of kicks and white noise hi-hats. It continues to slowly build, with pitch-bent synth lines and a pulsing bass-line making way for a melacholic shift in mood. Truly original stuff!

On the flip, a swirl of synthetic strings introduces ‘Gigha’, in a manner that brings to mind Rhythim Is Rhythim’s legendary ‘Kao-Tic Harmony’, before the drums and infectious acid-line join in. Over the 8 minutes they continue to interweave and play off each other to dazzling effect. Artwork by Jack Featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for Border Community (including the highly praised campaign behind James Holden’s ‘The Inheritors’, its singles and live visuals), Electric Minds, Warm and of course, Phonica.

Brand new single from Death In Vegas frontman Richard Fearless on his Drone imprint. Debut single 'Higher Electronic States' premiered on Dummy, Ransom Note and The Drone.

Welcome to the second aural outpouring from the world of Drone, the London-based label from producer, artist and Death In Vegas guiding light Richard Fearless, now firmly established as an artist in his own right. Earlier this summer Drone laid down its debut mandate in the form of Fearless' own Higher Electronic States, which picked up plaudits from corners far and wide.

Discussing the second single Richard says "With Higher Electronic States I wanted to make a record to end my sets with, Gamma Ray is something much deeper. I wanted to create a timeless stark, minimal, desolate landscape of a track."

And he's done just that, creating one of those rare things in electronic music, a song with longevity. A piece of finely crafted techno of the highest order;

"I obsessed over Gamma Ray. spending a week on the drum sound alone".

To make matters all the more enticing he's enlisted the supreme talent that is Legowelt to rework the track. Stripping it back further to its core elements this is pure heads music from Danny Wolfers, another extreme audiophile. The depth, texture and atmosphere he injects into the track completes what is an exceptional and significant second release from Drone.

"I feel like I've made the record that is true to this vision." We wouldn't disagree.

Having recently taken in part in an RBMA lecture in their Russian headquarters and an appearance at the hallowed turf of Golden Pudel planned for later in the year, the world of Richard Fearless and Drone is in its ascendancy.

Dancefloor distortion and other musical explorations, created in the Metal Box, Drone releases oscillations in many forms, further transmissions incoming.

Israel’s hottest export follow up excellent EPs on Hivern and I’m A Cliché with a 3-tracker for the global psychedelic cult of Multi Culti.

Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Melbourne’s Kris Baha, fresh from launching his Power Station imprint, offers a stripped down remix of ‘Waiting for a Surprise,’ with a heavy, industrial-influenced groove that wanders into the deep, dark end of party strasse.
