Soma welcome the debut album from the ever-growing roster of youthful talent as Lewis Fautzi drops The Gare Album, named in homage to The Gare Club, Porto, where Lewis made his discovery of Techno. A bold 4 track single debut gave rise to the album process midway through 2013 and under the careful supervision of Soma, Lewis has provided a definitive peak in his sound cultivated on the back of years of studio work. A collection of deep, dark and twisted techno awaits heralding a coming of age for the Portuguese native.

A droning, industrial vibe is immediate from the outset as Signal crackles into existence giving way to the cavernous UBV-76 with its concrete swathes of noise. High intensity pings form the depths give a sense of what is to come. Intriguing, broken beats deepen proceeding as Lewis takes things to The Other Side of Reality. A momentarily respite before he begins to open things up. Blocker takes the tempo up a notch with a thumping kick and looped out chaotic synths that slowly build the tension. This brooding atmosphere is carried on into the tweeked out and mesmerizing Sick, the punishing, bleeped workout of Range and the relentless, discord of Loudness. By this point Lewis has really worked up into a frenzy. Tight percussive workouts keep this album firing on all cylinders. A short interlude is offered as Opaque drifts quickly through the chaos of this straight to the floor album. Through the darkness, a glimmer of Hope shines through, albeit a cold and fleeting techno version as Lewis leaves you bare and bleeding. Yet more dance floor action as the elasticated synths of Binary (recently remixed by Spanish techno don Oscar Mulero) tear through the backbone of the album. By far Lewis’ most destructive track. The static buzz of Psychiatric is a welcome come down from the headiness of the previous track allowing Lewis to lead us through the black hole, ending on the Other Planet. It’s swirling, vortex like pads sliced open with subtle percussive, other worldly bleeps. A fitting end to this hyperactive techno journey.

A definite maturity in production shines through on this fantastic LP from Fautzi as he creates a cold and calculating output, clearly focused on the future. The Gare Album has allowed Fautzi to express himself fully through electronic music, a task that he has taken to whole-heartedly.

The titletrack Lost Babylon is backed with three delightful remixes from In Flagranti, Daniel Kyo and Moscoman, with whom we shared the decks few days ago in London. The Disco Halal headhoncho provides here a 11 minutes long epic dreamy synthetic rework, lovely ! Out in two weeks

The white walls were illuminated by the glow of the morning sun. They appeared a stark contrast to the royal blue texture of the sky which radiated warmth in the early hours. Birds soared eagerly upon the breeze above the water down below as the flickering leaves of palm trees blew gracefully in the wind. It was a beautiful scene, like something from a picture book or postcard. Soon this would all be gone. 

Deepwave are set to release a new EP from Sebastian Deluca, however it was the remix from label boss Ian Metty which caught our upmost attention.

The Rapture’s Luke Jenner ventures firmly into the dance floor, this time in full force, on Glittering Jewel, the Brooklyn-based producer’s debut EP under his Meditation Tunnel guise. 

Following his initial outing, La La La, on Life and Death’s vinyl-only sub-label, Blitz Series, Glittering Jewel sees Jenner step up with three outsider cuts, dripping in personality.

Cloaked subtly into the backdrop, Jenner’s unmistakable croon features throughout the disk - a highlight across the board. While dilapidated drum machines, crunched beyond recognition, propel the record into techno territory, Glittering Jewel retains the artist’s bespoke youthful sense of blue-eyed naiveté.

Red Axes come through with an unclassifiable, stripped-down reinterpretation of Fire Fly, the perfect pair to deconstruct and re-contextualize the original material. 

Carefully pressed on high-quality, transparent vinyl, LAD039 stands as a testament to the label’s shifting auditory ethos.

Two decades. Twenty years. Twenty compilations. Over 400 tracks. Over two days of total playing time and countless coloured dots. If someone would have told us in 1999, when we put together TOTAL 1 that this would turn into one of the longest standing compilation series in techno world we would have laughed out loud. But here we are – in the year 2020 which will probably go down in history as the most difficult period ever for club culture. But we won’t stop doing what we’re doing. Music is our oxygen. We’ll dance together soon again.

The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between. Notable new entries to our crew are the Londoner KIWI with his wonderfully careless “Hello Echo” that picks up the camp disco vibes Justus Köhncke made a staple in our repertoire. Amsterdam’s DAVID DOUGLAS delivers an appetizer for a full course meal. His quirky pop approach sits comfortably between fellow dutchmen WEVAL’s abstract beats and AGENTS OF TIME’s opulent Italo Disco. YOTAM AVNI blends Detroit techno with new age jazz that reminisces the sound of ECM artists like Jan Garbarek or John Surman. The man with the hat, KÖLSCH also picks up jazzier notes in his very own big room style. Youngblood JONATHAN KASPAR appears twice, fortifying his status as one of the hottest beat smiths of our hometown Cologne. TOTAL wouldn’t be TOTAL without our permanent staff present in full force. As per tradition, KOMPAKT’s founding fathers, VOIGT & VOIGT, JÜRGEN PAAPE, JÖRG BURGER, MICHAEL MAYER as well as our Berlin outpost SASCHA FUNKE all deliver exclusive gems that also feature on Total 20’s double vinyl edition.

This sampler features three brand new and exclusive tracks as taken from the forthcoming
Crossing Wires 001 - Compiled and Mixed by My Favorite Robot which is due out June 10th. It
features disco talent The Revenge, techno veteran Timo Mass and Robot member James Teej and
offers a snapshot of the sounds this label has dealt in across more than 75 releases to date.
The first track from The Revenge might not be what you expect – instead of dazzling disco ‘Maia’ is
a slice of kinetic pulsating house that ebbs and flows beautifully. Of course there is some devilish
synth work buried between the beats to add some all important colour, too, and a restrained sense
of epic-ness is never far away.
Next up is electronic legend Timo Maas with ‘Dancing For My Pleasure’, a bulbous techno track
with quirky synth hooks and plenty of tension buried deep within. Sounding like a spaceship circling
a desolate cityscape, the sounds full submerge you in a world far away from here.
Finally, famed vocalist and one third of My Favorite Robot, James Teej decides to slow things down
in his ‘I Like To Clip’ track that swaggers back and forth in a lonely landscape with only icy melodic
winkles and rising and falling keys for company. It’s unnerving but inviting, alien yet familiar, and
combines the man’s usual strained vocal style with plenty of musical mystery.
Keep an eye out for the full mix will be available from June 10th 2013.

My Favorite Robot Records has been a strong force in underground electronic music since 2008.

The Toronto based label is an offshoot of the act “My Favorite Robot” formed earlier in 2002 by Jared Simms and Voytek Korab.

The label has managed to consistently release quality music by some of the electronic dance world’s most renown producers such as H.O.S.H, Kenny Glassgow, Jori Hulkkonen, Eric Volta, Sasse, Fairmont, Tiger Stripes, Tim paris, Chymera, Sid Le Rock, Tim Green, Clarian, and My Favorite Robot themselves just to name but a few and there is no slowing down for them!
