Mommy's Special Boy

Marseilles based Fructose Father teams up with the Londoner looper Oscar Mic, on a little funky noisy ditty called Yeah Boi. The song is originally a part of an upcoming release called YOU ARE STILL PURE, an album based on remote collaborations with diverse artists (mainly in the UK). Fructose father’s first album, “It’s Leaking!” was released on Float Rock Records, a south London based DIY label, home of the great queer-punk Forrest Flowers.

Oscar and Elyas met in Dalston’s Shacklwell arms a year ago, when Oscar was playing support for the band Mozes And The Firstborn. They all ended up going out in a big group and struck up conversations about making music. A year later, during lockdown, Elyas got back in touch with Oscar.
 
Fructose Father: “When I first started working on this bunch of songs, I thought they needed something. In these strange times, I believed it would be great if I got other people involved in my process. Yeah boi was only an embryo of a song: guitar, bass and drums, so I sent it to Oscar and he composed the lyrics, the vocal melody and voila. I didn’t have a precise idea about where the track should go, and Seamus came with this angry crowd and a riot energy and produced this Prince-punk-like song, which I thought was exactly in the atmosphere of the album AND the world we are living in right now. Hung from the rafters! Blood on the floor! Death to the bastards! gave it a completely new meaning and it was a  wonderful feeling

I made the video on my lousy computer as always. I had a very colorful and dynamic image in mind. Seamus sent me home made footage, and I asked my mom to film her dancing. The rest is just some people dancing and lip-syncing far away from each other, not so different from the actual mood. Well let’s make it joyful and catchy! I added footage of carnivals and cops. 

During my time in London, I would spend most of my free time on Dalston, and in one specific pub venue: the Shacklewell Arms, where I would see many great gigs: shoegaze bands, Chinese new wave bands, everything! It’s not impossible that Oscar mic gave me the desire to create this one man band. He was alone on stage with a couple of percussion instruments and a guitar, and created these funky rock/rap songs, instrument by instrument, with a looper. He was one of the first people I thought about for this project. Music is a great medium to talk about death, pain, depression, the more abstract, the more powerful it is. Bands like Flaming Lips or Radiohead made me realize that.”
Oscar: “I heard the demo and loved it immediately. I started writing these lyrics about the blood hungry crowd from a dislocated, slightly judgmental perspective. I kept writing and realized I was with the crowd! Right here where we are as history is being made I too feel the need for blood and justice as we continue to be ruled by a corrupt government that is so out of touch with the people who voted for them”

Two hours of new cutting-edge post-punk/ punk/ alternative/ experimental/ no wave/ darkwave/ shoegaze/ psychedelia/ dreampop/ quirky pop and other assorted slices of musical excellence, with two opening oldies - presented by Simon Edwards.
