Lucy Stevens is a multidisciplinary British contemporary artist whose work explores our relationship and understanding of nature conservation.
She draws inspiration from ornithology and colour theory. She is also an amateur birdwatcher. Her projects often include working in collaboration with experts in the natural world including scientists, museum curators, ornithologists, photographers and musicians.

Her work interprets birdsong, museum collections and conservation data into mixed media abstract portraits on paper and sound works developed from gathering field recordings. 

Her most recent work in collaboration with The British Trust for Ornithology and Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust explores the effects of climate change on migratory birds. The new collection of mixed media artwork is informed by scientific research to demonstrate declines in bird populations and changes in bird behaviour due to extreme weather conditions. She also works closely with Leicester Museum’s natural science avian collection to change the narrative around museums and conservation. 

Lucy lives and works in Leicester. She received an MA and BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University. Her work has been shown in exhibitions and art fairs across the East Midlands and London. She has also taken part in artist residencies in Scotland, Brussels, France, and Sweden.

Combining traditional and medieval music elements with improvisation, including extended instrumental techniques such as the "deconstructed bow" and double recorders, the artist draws inspiration from the emotional influence of the landscape, animal calls or fragments of liturgical music in order to build a unique form of chamber music that avoids historicism and instead inhabits an imagined territory, combining contemporary and archaic elements.

Sultry disco-botherer Citizen Helene is a singer, songwriter and guitarist based in London.

Helene has been compared to matrons of 60’s pop Margo Guryan, Karen Carpenter and Joni Mitchell, while her intricate electric guitar playing, insightful lyrics and incredible outfits could sit anywhere between Grace Jones and Todd Rundgren.

Her sunshine pop and caramel vocals have been described as ‘baroque and beautiful’ by Darian Sahanaja of the Brian Wilson Band and like ‘bonkers English pop-sike crossed with a honey-soaked Californian sunset’.

Since moving from Dorset to London in 2004, Helene has supported artists with a kindred sound, including the High Llamas, Ed Harcourt and Liam Bailey. She’s also collaborated with musicians as diverse as Kiran Leonard, Darren Hayman and The Memory Band. In addition, Helene is a singer and percussionist in former Death in Vegas guitarist Ian Button’s band, Papernut Cambridge, and sings and plays guitar with Mary Epworth.

Helene’s first EP ‘Citizen Helene’ was released in 2011 on her own label, Fair Maiden Records. Produced by Jeremy Radway (Player Piano), the EP received national and local radio airplay (BBC 6 Music, BBC London, Amazing Radio) and features BBC Folk Award-winning guitarist Sam Carter and avant-garde string ensemble the Elysian Quartet. 

Helene is set to release her 7′′ single, ‘How Can You Find Someone To Love / Bridges’ on wiaiwya records on 7th June.
