The ninth release of katharsis is the EP “Journey Before Destination” by @jjjacob, which is the first full release of the label founder on his own label. The EP spans six tracks and is quite a deviation in sound from his earlier releases on labels such as ANBA, high heal and Sweat Taste. Taking a step away from his usual tools of heavily automated synths and complex midi-based melodies, this EP focuses closely on recordings of acoustic instruments and vocals done by jjjacob himself throughout the pandemic year.

World Canvas has the pleasure to present a new body of work ‘Connaissance par les gouffres’ by Spanish artist Contacto (David H. Martí). On their sophomore musical release the artist explores a sonic narrative forming from emotionally present synthesiser pieces, interwoven with ambiguous rhythmic patterns which contribute to the release's overall themes of journey and the eventual discovery.
Inspired by the titular piece of writing by Henri Michaux, Contacto’s musical oeuvre finds it’s rooting in the ideas of self-discovery. The starting point might not determine the way the journey pans out, as well as where the traveler might end up at the conclusion of their endeavours. As Martí’s 6-song piece of work forms an immersive world of mystery and intrigue, it’s calling the listener to explore one’s own emotional landscape, through which find refuge and bliss.

On the winding roads of escape, running away from the burning city's suffocation, in search of air, Cecilia drowns in the thick, elemental romance of Sexilia island.

The landscape oozes and recalls the radical desire of adolescent souls, a chaste and mystical resistance which flutters and strolls above through ditches, railroad edges, highway exits, stinking alleys owned by starving cats.

Sparse and sculptural breaths, the songs are drunk with melancholic infatuation.

“Summer in Sexilia” is a sensory encounter with the great despair in which the lover's courage takes shape once again, sublime, hanging on the memory of the shining stars.

In the hallucinated Summer of Sexilia, the ground trembles, the hands get dirty and the world craves for real tenderness and silent ecstasy.

QT.bot is an artificial intelligence, trained on the textual and visual data of Queering The Map, that generates speculative queer futures and the environments in which they occur. Their digital mind is constructed from an implementation of the Open AI GPT-2 text generation model trained on over 82 000 text entries from the platform, and a StyleGAN trained on scraped Google Street View imagery of the tagged coordinates on Queering The Map.

QT.bot’s first video output, Sitting here with you in the future, is a deep dream into the collective (cyber)spaces of possible queer futurities.The narratives and landscapes of speculative LGBTQ2IA+ life generated by QT.bot straddle the line between the plausible and the fantastic, revelling in the potential of failure, chaos and incommensurability in the queer use of machine learning technologies. In collaboration with the voices of their human community, QT.bot fabulates on the absences of the archive, orienting us away from what is, or has been, and towards what could be.
