South River Seniors Telling Their Stories is a community-made collection of stories, anecdotes, aural history and reminiscences told by Seniors who live in South River, Ontario.

The stories were collected in a weekly storytelling circle at The South River Friendly Circle and are broadcast on NAISA Radio every Saturday at 1 pm. The stories are also available as a podcast or as individual audio segments on @naisa

“South River Seniors Telling Their Stories” is produced by New Adventures in Sound Art as part of the South River Storytelling Project for Seniors. The project is funded by the Government of Canada through the New Horizons for Seniors program.

256 Deciding between farming and owning own business

B-Radio is a series of radio shows mashing b- list genres with radio art. For Deep Wireless, the NRRF cosmo-noise-nauts voyage into uncharted territories of deep (radio) space. This piece is an excerpt from a May 2013 live telematic performance between collective members in Toronto and Chicago.

NRRF is a collaborative effort to make unlicensed translocal neighborhood radio art. NRRF mashes b-list film genres with radio art to structure the improvisational nature of its shows. The core group consists of Jonny Farrow, Anna Friz, Steve Germana, Jeff Kolar, and Peter Speer, with Sarah Knudtson (documentation). The Deep Wireless 15 Online Album was produced by New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) for the 2021 edition of the annual Deep Wireless Festival of Radio & Transmission Art. The album celebrates the 20th Anniversary of both New Adventures in Sound Art and Deep Wireless and is comprised of past performances produced for the festival by New Adventures in Sound Art.

NRRF - B - Radio - Voyage To The Forbidden Planet

Visiting Grandpa is a multi-channel soundscape based on my memories of my grandfather. It was written when I learned that the Iranian revolutionary guard demolished the historic cemetery of Baha'is in Shiraz (Iran), where my grandfather's remains were buried as well as those of many other Baha'is'.
I'd like to thank my husband, Kamran Fallah, for the translation of the original text into English; Nika Khanjani, for her powerful narration of the story; and Roya Sepehri, for creating a serene atmosphere by chanting prayers beautifully in Persian.

Parisa Sabet is an Iranian composer based in Toronto. Parisa’s compositions have a unique and lyrical quality that stems out of blending elements of Eastern and Western’s musical languages. Parisa is a recipient of several grants and scholarships including the 2016 Irene R. Miller and Anoush Khoshkish Fellowship in Music, the 2015 Ann H Atkinson Prize in Composition, the 2014-2015 Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the John Weinzweig Graduating Scholarship. She was also a recipient of a 2013-2014 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Canada Graduate Scholarship. Professionally, her compositions have won various competitions and have been performed in different venues in North America. objects collected between Almondbury Village and Huddersfield town in the midst of national lock down 2021.

My usual scavenging people's skips and picking up litters from street ceased in April 2020. It was an important life routine. In the meantime, I walk more in the deep woods from small to large. 

Objects used here were collected during my one hour walk. not too perfect but did the tasks. 

One thing impossible was 'take-out coffee' so an old and small cardboard box with a lid was used.

Based on a text score by Anne-F Jacques as part of Art's Birthday 2021 with NAISA. Sounds recorded with mics inside a tin can and open placement. Found objects. Post production - noise reduction only, no effects, no EQ, no compression.

Realization of a text score by Anne-F Jacques for Art's Birthday 2021. The text score required one to use a take out coffee cup and lid over top of a microphone or portable audio recorder - in a sense, taking the place of a contact microphone. I didn't have a paper coffee cup on hand so I used a portable coffee thermos.  The last part of the score asks to open the window or door, allowing some outside sound in.  However, the day of the recording the sound ambience was very quiet - mid-winter in the country.  So this last part is difficult to discern other than the playing of the objects is captured through air transmission rather than through the material of an object such as coffee thermos.
