Luminosity Gathering 2017

Huge thanks to Roel Funcken for asking me to contribute to his new project "Dear of the Yog" - out now on Touched Music. 
Suddenly I find myself in the company of old IDM heroes like Plaid, Lusine, Ochre, Kettel and Funckarma plus lots of great acts I didn't even know of!
Igloo Magazine calls the album "an impacting assortment of some of the finest, ear-shattering IDM spheres of radiant experimental electronics". 
The album was released in order to “improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty.”

“The Pale Horse” is the 4th and final installment in Bluetech's The 4 Horsemen of the Electrocalypse series. Ranging from dark detroit influenced electro and braindance to IDM and melodic techno explorations, this EP puts an endcap on the analog and modular based releases with the classic sounds of a 303 providing lead duties.

These 4 EPs reference the Biblical bringers of the Apocalypse. Drawing inspiration from the classic fantasy art of Moebius, Beksinki and Syd Mead, “The Pale Horse” dances around eschatological tropes with tongue firmly placed in cheek. Featuring gorgeous artwork from concept designer Justin Totemical, each release in the series will present a facet of the visionary prophetic current. 

“Emerging from a long period of creative drought and personal struggle, I was seeking a way to frame my own experience in a larger meta-narrative. Navigating through loss and painful transformation always feels apocalyptic, so I wanted to take the opportunity to not only frame my heartbreak in a larger context but also to really laugh at myself and experience the high drama of being human with a sense of humor. The Revelations of our little lives feel like the end of everything, and looking out of our windows of meat and bone we feel the ground rumble with the approach of the 4 Horsemen. 

On a larger scale, it’s easy to draw parallels between the realities of modern life and the harbingers of ‘the end’ in John’s symbolic vision of the end of the Roman Empire. We are in the grasp of a dying empire watching the destruction of our biosphere, and yet… every seed must go to ground before new life emerges. 

This series of releases is about watching it all burn with a smile, embracing the death of the self as an act of beauty in order to grow. By aligning my own story and our collective story with a prophetic vision of epic proportions, I was able to to regain my joy and (en)lighten my life.”

Milkcrate Mechanic began experimenting with mixing wax over 2 decades ago. The name came from being one of the last DJ's still carrying crate after crate up and down stairs, not updating DJ equipment to CDJs or even a laptop. After many years Mr. Milkcrate can't be tied down to a specific genre, his sound can be described as unique, funky fresh and infinitely danceable. This has given him a chance to share a stage with artists Phutureprimitive, Griz, Sub-Swara, JPOD, Dieslboy, Enzymes, Freq Nasty, Logisticalone plus countless local and regional talent. 
Aside from playing music he started Milkcrate Productions. Inspired from attending and hosting a theme camp at Burning Man. The Production Company was created to provide locals (many of them their first time) a bigger and better platform with which to perform. Since 2008 the mission statement for Milkcrate Productions has been and will always be, "Bringing the community together through art and music".
Thus began Milkcrate Monday at the Palace and Badlander complex which later became Milkcrate Wednesday and after a decade became the longest running DJ weekly in the state.

Some Words form the Man Himself-
Hailing from the beautiful Missoula Valley my biggest inspiration has always been bringing something new and different to our community and providing up and coming artists a much needed outlet. Honestly running a weekly plus often a headliner show or festival on the weekend was a lot of work but always worth it. Another major inspiration is my wonderful wife Kitty!  Without her love and support I don't know that many of these shows would have happened.  
In addition to the weekly at the Complex, I helped with major festivals across the state and beyond. I had the honor of playing and helping build and promote events such as Shine, Pirate Party, Neon City, LYMEF, Forest Creatures and many more! Inspired by the Burning Man Festival I constructed a couple of geodesic domes, an art vehicle (Boxy Brown RIP), a fire breathing dragon head and two twenty foot flame cannons just to add to the outdoor DJ experience.Watching this music scene grow and flourish has always been my biggest inspiration.  However being able to host artists in my own home during their first trip to the Treasure State has been amazing as well.  Having artists such as CloZee and JPOD stay with you and realizing that not only are they fantastic musicians but also amazing genuine people is nothing short of humbling.

This mix includes some new jams as well as some classics dusted off and resurrected from "the crate".  Enjoy!
