She Wasn't There

When we were working on the production for ‘Doin' It,’ I wanted to create something that was both modern and timeless. So, we went for a clean, tight beat right from the start. You can hear how the drums are crisp and set the foundation, but they don’t overpower the rest of the track. They allow space for the vocals to really shine.

The verses have this laidback feel, with subtle synths and warm chords that support the vocals without distracting from them. It’s minimal but intentional, giving the listener room to focus on the lyrics. In the verses, I’m really telling a story about taking control, moving with confidence, and staying true to yourself, no matter what. There’s this almost conversational tone in the way I sing it, like I’m talking directly to you.

When we get to the chorus, the energy lifts, and that’s when you feel the anthem side of it. The instrumentation fills out more, and the backing vocals come in to add richness. The bass starts hitting a little harder, and it’s almost like the song is saying, ‘Yeah, this is it, this is your moment.’ I wanted it to feel empowering, like the music is wrapping around you, supporting you.

Then, as the song moves into the bridge, things strip back a little again. I always love that moment in a song where it pulls back before building back up. It’s like a breath of fresh air before you push forward again. In this part, there’s a bit more focus on harmonies and vocal layering, giving it this reflective, almost introspective vibe. It’s a chance to pause and take in the message before we bring it all home.

The outro leaves you on a high, like you’re ready to take on the world, which is exactly what I wanted. You should feel like you can conquer anything after hearing this track.

Tasha - Doin'  It

This song is really personal to me. It’s about the struggle to trust and let your guard down when you've been hurt before. In the first verse, I talk about ‘fight or flight’ something I learned from my dad. He taught me to protect myself, but over time, I realized that instinct can make it really hard to connect with people, especially in relationships.

There’s this idea in the song that love feels dangerous, like you can’t ever fully relax. That’s what I mean when I say, ‘My love sleeps with one eye open.’ Even when you want to give someone a chance, there’s this voice in the back of your mind saying, ‘Be careful, don’t let them in too much.’

The chorus is kind of the heart of it. Sometimes it feels easier to just walk away before you get too deep, especially when trust doesn’t come naturally anymore. Overthinking everything can feel like a trap, so leaving feels like the safer option. But at the same time, there’s that desire you want to believe in someone, you want to trust, but it’s hard when you’ve been let down before.

In the second verse, there’s a little glimmer of hope, like, ‘Okay, maybe this could work if you prove you’re different.’ But that hope comes with conditions. It’s not easy to rebuild trust when you’ve been through pain before. There’s this frustration, like, ‘I don’t have time to fix something that’s already broken prove to me it’s real from the start.’

For me, this song is about navigating that tension between self-protection and vulnerability. It’s about being honest with yourself about your fears, your walls, and the fact that trusting someone again takes real effort. But there’s also this underlying hope that maybe, just maybe, it’s possible if the right person comes along.

Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to break down the production of my track, Shame, and let you in on how we crafted the vibe of this song.
We started with the drum tight, punchy kicks and crisp snares that really set the mood. There’s a subtle swing in the hihats, giving it that laidback but still driving groove. The percussion is layered with soft claps and rim shots, adding texture without overpowering the vocal.
The bass is deep but not overwhelming it moves smoothly underneath everything, creating warmth and depth. It’s a mix of an electric bass with some slight saturation for a vintage feel, helping it sit perfectly in the mix.
We laid down some rich, reverb drenched keys to carry the emotional weight of the song. The chords have a bit of a jazzy, R&B influenced progression, making everything feel intimate and nostalgic. There’s also a soft pad in the background, filling out the space and making it feel dreamy.
For the vocals, we went with a clean, upfront mi just a touch of reverb and delay to give it some space. There are subtle harmonies tucked in behind the main vocal, adding warmth without distracting from the raw emotion in the delivery. The background vocals are panned slightly left and right to create a sense of depth.
Throughout the track, there are these little ear candy moment reverse vocal chops, a gentle vinyl crackle for texture, and soft ambient swells that keep the song feeling alive. The outro has a slightly lofi filter sweep, pulling everything into a dreamy fade-out.
Overall, we wanted Shame to feel like a late night confession, intimate, warm, and just a little bit haunting. Hope you guys enjoy this breakdown, and let me know what your favorite part of the song is!
