Almost Famous is a Berlin-based DJ known for his deep love of house music and vinyl. As a resident for Not In My House and Grooveriding, he’s played at venues across Germany and performed at several festivals. 

A true fan of classic house, Almost Famous has a particular fondness for the sounds of Chicago and Detroit house from the '90s. Influenced by the raw, soulful vibes of that era, his sets often incorporate timeless tracks that pay homage to the pioneers of the genre. His love for the roots of house music shapes his style, blending the old with the new to create a distinctive and powerful sound.

...an epic 6.5 hour DJ set by legendary DJ Roy Thode at the even more legendary night club "The Saint" where dance music history was written. This is a special, so-called "morning music" set.

Quote from Tim Lawrence about this:
Robbie Leslie: "At around 6:00 AM, in a ritual that was not replicated in other venues, the DJ would let the final record of the peak set fade, accept applause from the crowd and acknowledge the work of the lighting person and the generosity of the crowd (if indeed the applause was enthusiastic, which wasn’t always the case). After that, the DJ would take the tempo right down and play a set that was commonly referred to as “sleaze” or “morning music”."

"As the night progressed, the tempo and intensity increased by tiny, nearly imperceptible increments until climaxing around 6 AM, when the DJ would stop the music and the still-sizeable crowd would applaud as if giving a Broadway cast their standing ovation.

Then the DJ would resume, but at a somewhat slower tempo, and in a more lyrical and romantic style known as “morning music.” In a morning music set, the tempo of the tracks might build again, but typically not their intensity. Instead, DJs programed morning sets to ease dancers off stimulants and take them down an ethereal, more relaxing and soulful path for several more hours. Then the jock would usually take another encore, henceforth playing what many call “sleaze.” Sleaze might be overtly sexual, like Skatt Bros.’ “Walk the Night,” but usually not; its foundation was openhearted R&B; songs of longing, or regret, or sorrow or unmitigated joy.

This misnomer – Leslie emphatically objects to it – was especially deceptive because quintessential “sleaze” selections like Sharon Ridley’s “Changin’” or Viola Wills’ “Somebody’s Eyes” ranked among the evening’s most sensitively arranged tracks. Even when club music lost much of its compositional sophistication as the decade progressed, a “sleaze” set always radiated class. "

Warren passed away very recently. I am devastated the Dance Music scene has lost such a big icon, so early. His legacy remains, his perfect transitions, his monolithic taste and seamless storytelling in his mixes - just perfect. Disco music and DJ culture lose one of their greatest, yet most humble figureheads.

Every now and then when I put together a Mix and can't really seem to "finish my thoughts" with just that one set of songs. This is the case with my last Gospel House mix from a couple of weeks ago, "Thank You" picks right up where "Sunday Mornin" left off.  This high energy playlist starts off with a powerful prayer of "Thanksgiving" by my childhood Pastor out of Detroit: Dr. Charles G. Adams. From there we just jump into the musical praise with "Bangers" from: Jasper Street Co., Mary Mary, Fred hammond and more. Wow 2020 has definitely been a year for the ages, a year that none of us will ever forget. This year has been filled with anxiety and lots of uncertainty but if you're like me you leaned on your music now more than ever. We had to shut off the TV for a while, push back the newspapers and all of the crazy news articles and just drift off into that magical place that only music can take us. Music was with us in the car, on our runs in the park and even when we danced in our living rooms with our loved ones or even just dancing by ourselves. We knew it before but 2020 helped confirm that music truly is "Medicine." This is my last recorded set for this year and I just wanted to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind words of encouragement, thanks for sharing the mixes with your friends and thank you so much for all of your generous contributions (Via My Ca$h app below). > Bio: Berlin-based Nat Wendell, a seasoned DJ and producer with a profound connection to his core sound, is one of house music’s true exponents. 

Uniquely his, Nat has left an indelible mark on a world of electronic music so often bereft of the essence of groove—the same groove that now regularly sparks the dynamic atmosphere of venues like Berghain/Panorama Bar and Heideglühen in Berlin. His mission, since 1998, has been the same: to captivate audiences with his unmistakable sense of swing. 

His musical upbringing in the melting pot of cultures that is London has been the catalyst for his sonic identity, and his very first record purchase, "Snap - The Power," proved to be a powerful harbinger of things to come.  Immersed in the diverse Caribbean culture, with its roots in gospel, dancehall and soul, he developed a keen appreciation for the rhythmic intricacies of records. Nat Wendell continues to evolve into a maestro of sound, crafting a unique sonic journey that is deep, soulful, and undeniably groovy. That his music is now taking him worldwide, from the celebrated Fusion Festival to the hallowed floors of his very own inspiration, New York City, is a testament to the fact that his sense of swing has, and will, withstand the test of time.
