To participate:

- Make a song in response to the weekly assigned poem (a new poem is published every Wednesday)

- When choosing a title for your piece also include the assignment number, for example “Title of your track (naviarhaiku110)”

- If you’re a Soundcloud user, upload it on Soundcloud and send me the URL via private message, or tag me in the track.

- If you upload your music on Youtube, Bandcamp or anywhere else, upload your submission and then send me the link by email at marco@naviarrecords.com or contact me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram

haiku #387: Watch! While singing hymns /among the congregation/ the serpent’s concealed

Another track produced for Naviar records' Haiku Challenge. Coincidentally, earlier in the day I had been reading about 'stretto fuga' techniques of the 16th Century (often used in religious music) which I thought fitted well with the theme of the haiku, so decided to experiment with elements of that approach. For me the 'serpent concealed' is represented by the chaotic violin that emerges near the end.

When starting a piece I'm rarely sure where I'm going to be taken. The initial selection of a range of sounds and their subsequent pruning often leads me in unexpected directions, as it has here.

The main elements of this piece are 8Dio's The New Forgotten Voices Terrie and (the lovely) The New Bazantar.
