I've been very busy these last few weeks with multiple projects. I did not have time to record a new show this week so instead I am posting a live set I did this summer for a private event for a company called SACO in New York City. The audience was very diverse so I kept the music light and mid-tempo with a lot of edits that they would recognize. Apologies for the roughness in the first few mixes but I had monitor issues. Once they fixed it it went smooth as butter :) Hey, it's live.

This is only two and half hours of the 6 hour (!) set I did. Maybe in the future I will post the rest. Next week we return with a special guest from Miami.

Welcome to EP-153 of the NDYD Radio Show with our first guest mix of the year by non other than Germany's Phonk D.

In the early 90s electronic music grabbed hold of Phonk D. After many nights at clubs in Frankfurt, hundreds of kilograms of collected vinyls, countless DJ-gigs and a remarkable journey into Hip Hop as a producer, the Darmstadt resident founded his label Footjob in 2014. The Footjob sound is somewhere between deep, disco and classic house and finds the approval of well-known scene-heads. 

His second EP released in June 2016 included his most outstanding track up to this day called ‘Midnight Bumper’. The stomping house-banger clinged to the Top 5 Traxsource charts for several weeks and furthermore, Phonk D has been named to the Top 100 House Artists of the Year 2016 by Traxsource.

He debuts on NDYD Records in 2018 with his latest baby,the ‘Disco Goodies’ EP which contains four stellar tracks, each one with a unique twist and made within the last three years. Like wine these creations got better with time.

Argentinian duo Los Cabra team up with the ZEHN Records family to release two melodic house tracks entitled ‘Hayat’ EP including a remix from Get Physical’s Pezzner.
Manuel Sahagun & Christ Burstein, the seasoned duo behind Los Cabra, were drawn to each other through their mutual appreciation for deep, melodic rhythms. Individually they’ve been active within electronic music for over a decade now with a handful of releases on the likes of Oblack, Mother, Blind Vision and We Records. 2016 saw the duo from Buenos Aires pair up as Los Cabra and have since gone on to release on Bar 25 Music, Golden Gate Club, Culprit, Parallel and Christ’s Rural Records. Their ‘Hayat’ EP sees them join the ZEHN roster following slick releases from Gersound, Modul Kollektiv and Daniel Rateuke to name a few. ‘Hayat’ kicks things off with sharp synth stabs, organic percussion and emotive pads before ‘Pepiri Guazu’ offers up gentle melodies, winding modulations and euphoric elements. Pezzner who holds releases on Get Physical, VIVa and Decay Records then rounds things off with his remix of ‘Pepiri Guazu’ balancing tension building oscillations, undulating low end and fluid drums to create an uplifting atmosphere throughout.

When it comes to seriously good disco chuggers or edits, it’s fair to say that Orlando’s Sleazy McQueen, head honcho of Whiskey Disco and it’s sublabel Lovedancing, has the Midas touch for quite some time. Each and every record he decides to put out turns to solid black gold. Bolting Bits had an absolute pleasure to premiere tracks from two of the previous Lovedancing releases: LD03 which featured Tel Aviv’s underground beacons Rabo & Snob and LD06 which came from a French producer Closed Paradise and included masterfully crafted remixes from Texan The Silver Rider and Detroit’s Pontchartrain. It looks (and hears) like gold was struck yet again with the latest Lovedancing output. This time Sleazy is introducing Dagfest, a producer duo from Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm.

With previous releases on Ben Davis’ Paperecordings, Montreal’s Editorial records and UK’s ISM records, Dagfest should’ve found the place in the hearts and minds of cosmic funk aficionados. The latest offering from a duo comes as a 4 track vinyl with 2 original compositions and 2 remixes from NYC’s Superior Elevation Records boss Tom Noble and from Lovedancing CEO Sleazy McQueen himself.

Today Boltings Bits are happy to premiere the A1, title track of the release. “Falling in Love” is laden with funky guitars, catchy synths and a soulful vocal about one of the most beautiful feelings on Earth. “Dagfest” stands for day party in Swedish, but we are convinced that rather uptempo beat of this groover will surely provide enough charm and energy to stir and move dancefloors around the globe no matter whether it’s day, or night. Capping what has been another vintage year, nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, sees out 2018 in style with 'Lost In Japan', a cover of Canadian star Shawn Mendes' recent mega-hit. Featuring frequent collaborator Niya Wells ('Primordial', 'Never Enough') on vocals, the pair have transformed the pop smash into a smooth slice of late night disco.

"We'd just finished recording our last single together 'Primordial' and were knocking around some new ideas," Tim explains. "We'd talked about doing a cover so Niya played me the new Shawn Mendes single and as soon as I heard her sing it I was sold. It's always interesting to try and put your own spin on someone else's song, especially one that's been as popular as 'Lost In Japan', but I think together we've managed to give it a fresh take." 

Whether producing modern Balearic house anthems such as 'You Make Me Feel Good', seductively soulful tracks like 'Through The Night' or genuine poolside classics like 'For Days', Tim has established himself as one of the biggest names in the modern disco scene clocking up more than 35 million streams of the debut Satin Jackets album, 'Panorama Pacifico', on Spotify alone.

NDYD's Vitamin D Suncast #4 with Cloak Dagger

We made it. Episode 200!  I've been doing online radio shows since the early 2000s and I think NDYD is the first to make it to 200.  There is only one reason for that. You guys. If it wasn't for the fans and listeners of this radio show I would have stopped. The messages and support I have received from you guys (and industry people) has been amazing. Especially after my car accident in 2018. So thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Since this is a special episode it needed to be well, 'special'. I got what I wish for cause the person who stepped up to help me cross this milestone is non other that NDYD veteran and especially very, very good friend Cloak Dagger (@cloakdaggernyc) out of New York City. 

His bio reads:

A permanent fixture in Manhattan’s chic hotel lounge and loft scene displaying an eclectic array of DJ residencies from the opulence of The W Hotel in Times Square to the stylish boutique NoMo SoHo and the swanky Art Deco infused Ophelia Rooftop in midtown Manhattan. 

On the production side of the coin. Cloak is a resident curator for German based label NDYD alongside his own boutique edit and rework series Noc Boots. Cloak has released music under Midnight Riot, Claude Challe select series, Bastard Jazz recordings and the Timewarp label. His latest single “Cut Me Open” is out now on Spotify and all good digital streaming sites!

Luke, his wife Drea and his entire beautiful family are some of the nicest people I have met in the industry and they have become friends for life.  I can't wait for us to play together again.

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.
