Back, Jack, do it Again - Yes, back with my first program of the year. But before that, I would like to give props and a HUGE thank you to Yissel @soundsbyyissel for taking over the decks last week with the first show of the year and also being the first guest of 2022. She went beyond the call of duty to give the program a proper kick start. Her set and selection is everything that the show is about and what I’ve been trying to build on for the last 7 years. This was Yissel’s second guest spot on the program as a guest and I will definitely not gonna let so much time pass under the bridge for her next appearance. Speaking of last week's guest, I had a nice convo with her about music and how she approaches it. She said something that really stuck with me. A set, or mix, is really telling a story. Most of the time it’s our personal story and we have the ability to control the narrative which is very empowering and healing.

Keeping that in mind it’s how I approached this week’s show. I’ve been listening to different takes/edits on tracks that had a significance during my teenage years. These songs definitely tell part of my story, such as the break ups (hey, I can’t help it I’m a libra), the song that was playing the first time I went to a club underage using fake IDs (hint: it was by Billy Ocean), a track from the Cure that used to haunt me in high school, and many more cuts that were around before my time but that I used to love. There is even a song from my favorite TV show of the time. These are mainly rock and disco songs with a modern take. Hence, the Yacht Rock/ Disco edition. This is volume 1 cause I am hoping to do more if people dig it. If you also grew up around the time I did and these songs bring back any memories let me know. Would love to hear about it. Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
