The Black Light Disco Show shins up the drainpipe of the Myhouseradio.fm airwaves  - buttering the crumpet that is Monday and giving you the best possible start for the week ahead.

Your hosts for this week’s instalment are the Mario and Luigi of the disco scene - Esteban and Cole Kutz! The lads have been busy pumping up the inflatables for the upcoming rooftop pool party in BLD Towers this weekend (weather permitting!) but they’ll hopefully be able to break off from this important work to give you a two hour show of twists, turns, humpback bridges and whacky rabbit holes to descend down.

First up is Esteban, who has a fistful of reworked house classics to drop in amongst the new stuff. Expect quality jams from the likes of Risk Assessment, Re-Tide, Never Dull, DJ Fudge, Sgt Slick and Andy Buchan / Harlem Dance Club. 

For the second half of the show, Cole Kutz will be delighting you with picks from a basket of goodies including Scruscru, Moodena, Jamiroquai, Mattei & Omich, Pookie Knights and Young Pulse!

SUMMER SESSION 2024 VOL 2 july

Co-showrunner @wahinedj returned to Spin City on 7.7.24 for her monthly resident's mix where she welcomes Toronto's own @kikilefreak as her guest. The DJ/producer/promoter is a deeply loved and respected figure in the Toronto scene who came out of DJ retirement a few years back and has been taking Toronto by storm ever since with her explosive DJ style. She likes to keep her audience on their toes with surprising selections that meld the sounds of past and future. You'll find her playing countless venues across the city, including her own event Shango which has featured the likes of Gene Hunt, Dee Diggs, Heidy P, Eddie C and Peter Croce--the last 2 you might know as previous guests on Spin City.

A shout of gratitude to their mutual friend Jason for connecting these two. Without Jason's introduction, this episode would not be happening, nor would Wahine be making her way north to Toronto for the first time to play Kiki's event Shango in October.

This week's special guest was DJ DaveyB, whose online mixes I really love, and I just had to invite him as a guest on the show. His bio is below

DJ DaveyB's music attracts house-music enthusiasts seeking a blend of classics and future favorites. He currently mixes at Summertime Live, Ivy Asia, one-off dance events, and regular shows on CodeSouth.fm and 4TheMusic.

Known for his passionate DJ sets, DJ DaveyB creates a personal connection with the crowd, immersing them in deep, melodic, and vibrant house music that fills the dance floor until the lights come on.

Hailing from the UK's vibrant music scene, DJ DaveyB made his mark in the 90s at Lakota and Official Lakota Warm-Up Parties, and co-founded Vurt with Ed Real (Nukleus Records). Vurt became synonymous with some of the best dance music events of the 1990s.

Throughout the 2000s, David held a ten-year residency at Living, Brixton, London, drawing regulars who loved his mix of classic and upfront house music. In 2011, he was selected as a resident DJ for Coca-Cola on the Olympic Torch Relay, travelling across the country and collaborating with artists like Mark Ronson and KatyB to create memorable experiences.

Currently, DJ DaveyB is a resident DJ at Ivy Asia in Brighton, specialising in deep, melodic house music, setting the perfect vibe for unforgettable nights, leading to consistent bookings. This summer marks his third as a resident DJ for Summertime Live dance festivals, where he enjoys various platforms, including the main stage, second stage, and VIP area.

Recently, DJ DaveyB has started producing his own music, drawing on his extensive DJ experience. His productions have gained early recognition and are embraced by music lovers. His passion for bringing people together through music is evident, whether energising festival dance floors, playing deep house at restaurants, or crafting tracks in the studio. Following her first solo outing and years of experience as one half of the well-regarded Husky project, Ukrainian DJ and producer ALIIRA returns with a confident new step forward. 

Her Escucha EP on Zatar brings together two original tracks and two standout remixes, showcasing both her evolving solo voice and her deep roots in the club landscape.

The title track “Escucha” is a vibrant, punchy, electro-leaning house cut built around infectious vocal chops and crisp percussion. It’s a track that balances energy with clarity, direct and effective, but never overworked. 

Danish producer NILU (DK) and Zatar Labelhead Phonique take the reins on the remix, flipping the track into a more angular and urgent, sharp and edgy rework that leans into tension and groove, tailored for peak-time play.

The second track, “Devi”, dives into warmer, more hypnotic tech house territory. Its rolling rhythm and subtly layered melodies are joined by processed guitar textures, lending the track a slightly psychedelic edge without losing its forward drive. 

London based producer Urmet K strips down the track to its abosulte essentials to create a trippy, grooving house cut for the summer.

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
