I have to say that it seems to me that the new breed of underground music producers got better during the pandemic. I am amazed on how much great new music is been produce lately. Cutting through the cheese that I felt was starting to take over. This episode just samples some that new stuff that I have acquired over the last few weeks. Thank God this a weekly show ;)

Another week another NDYD Radio Show. Getting closer that 250 magic number. Will def have to do some kind of special episode for that milestone. In the meantime EP-231 is filled with the usual head bopping funky House and Deep House cause well, that is what the underground music makers have been blessing us with lately. I certainly ain't complaining. See you next week with a special guest (I think).

A mainstay in Manhattan’s chic hotel lounge and loft scene displaying an eclectic array of DJ residencies from the opulence of The W Hotel in Times Square to the stylish boutique NoMo SoHo and the swanky Art Deco infused Ophelia Rooftop in midtown Manhattan. 
 
As a producer, Cloak (@cloakdaggernyc)is resident curator for German based label NDYD, virtual artist in residency for the Hard Rock Hotel in Dublin, alongside his own boutique edit series Noc Boots. With a production style deep seeded in Balearic disco, house and laid back R&B grooves; a blend influenced by his European roots and an upbringing that sought musical refuge in the eclectic NYC FM dial of the 80’s and 90’s. Cloak has releases under Midnight Riot, Claude Challe’s select series, Bastard Jazz recordings, Horeazon, Phlamencore and the Timewarp imprint.

Well, it's always hard to follow a guest mix by @cloakdaggernyc as he always raises the bar. All I can do is try to follow his vibe and put a picture of me on the cover DJ'ing in high school in the mid 80s - ha ha. For real! A listener was asking me how long I've been at it. You can do the math from the picture and my 'Breakfast Club' outfit ;)

The NDYD Radio Show EP233

Final NDYD of the year and it's a special one. There was 35 episodes in 2021 - which is about 450 tracks in all of the shows combined. I went through the painful chore of picking 51 (I know, weird - why wasn't it 50?) and stringing them together to make my personal best of. These tracks have nothing do with charting or anything like that. They are only my personal favorites from all of the NDYD shows of 2021. Each of these tracks have been in at least one show this year and in no particular order. Perfect if you have to travel to a long destination.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all the listeners that have stood by the show in these last few difficult years a very Happy 2022 with much love and success in anything that you decide to tackle in the new year. Thank you to all the great guests that also contributed to the programming this year and the biggest thank you is to you for trusting the guests and I with your aural choice. There are so many options out there for music and 'radio' shows that I am grateful that some of you still invite us regularly to be part of your daily routine.

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
