Following in the footsteps of greats like Nicolas Jaar and PillowTalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary Brooklyn proving grounds.

Life on Planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. It was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that's now been signed to the Double Standard label. Life on Planets has also released music through Better on Foot, where the debut single 'Apollo' made waves in early 2014. The touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

Today’s guest mix is from a duo of producers Daniel Leseman & Hans Peeman (Junktion) that have recently joined forces under the moniker Fouk. Responsible for some of our favourite productions over the past year these guys and their new label Outplay are certainly on form. It’s always a bit of an experiment when two producers join forces and very often it doesn’t quite work, however their styles, bolstered by their friendship, have joined seamlessly (or so it appears).

Their mix for us today is full of funk, samples, groove and good records, just what we’re after. A particular highlight is the new Hauke Freer track and one from ‘Somethin Gunny’ we’d never heard before.

I've been very busy these last few weeks with multiple projects. I did not have time to record a new show this week so instead I am posting a live set I did this summer for a private event for a company called SACO in New York City. The audience was very diverse so I kept the music light and mid-tempo with a lot of edits that they would recognize. Apologies for the roughness in the first few mixes but I had monitor issues. Once they fixed it it went smooth as butter :) Hey, it's live.

This is only two and half hours of the 6 hour (!) set I did. Maybe in the future I will post the rest. Next week we return with a special guest from Miami.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (4th December) Benjamin Damage released his third album 'Obsidian' on 50 Weapons and as the first artist (outside of Modeselektor) to release on the label it’s apt that his album is also the last and 3 tracks feature in his mix, alongside label mates Cosmin Trg, previous guest Martyn, Secluded, Jerome Hill, Daniel Avery and SCNTST. He had this to say;
"My Solid Steel mix was recorded as a farewell to 50Weapons. I picked out some new and not so new music that fits in with the spirit of what the label meant to me."

So many beautiful experiences I have been through the last couple of weeks. From a beautiful gig in Lake Tahoe, to other crazy ones in LA, NY, San Diego and Austin. And then last week I had the privilege to play at the AfrikaBurn. A festival about 5 hours drive from Cape Town. I did two shows there. A sunset one and a pre-burn one. Both beautiful on its own. And when you hear the crowd scream: 'one more song, one more song' knowing that I already played 2 'more' songs....yes, then you know that they like what you do. That having said: I love bringing joy and happiness in your lives so the feeling is mutual! So straight from the heart another Deep & Sexy podcast for you guys. Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
