When talking about the music of Com Truise (one of the many pseudonyms of New Jersey designer/musician Seth Haley), the nostalgia bit inevitably comes up, so let’s get that out of the way. Yes, his songs tap classic sci-fi and proto-electro in a way that is distinctly early eighties in scope. But they’re also remarkably weird—stutter-step proggy and intoxicatingly psychedelic, like those classic touchstones got drunk on lava lamp juice inside a pinball machine. After his well-received Cyanide Sisters EP, a grip of remixes for artists like Twin Shadow, Neon Indian, and, uh, Daft Punk, and a few floating MP3s, Truise’s first LP, Galactic Melt, will finally enter brainspaces this summer.

And what an appropriate title it bears. For a brief moment, opener “Terminal” subsumes you in warm, starry-eyed synth arpeggios, and then down the rabbit hole you go—from the keyed up, skyscraping machine love of “VHS Sex” and “Cathode Girls” to opuses like “Air Cal” and “Ether Drift” that sound like Doogie Howser’s idea of the perfect prom song—mathy, forlorn, funky, and mighty in technical ambition. That they’re all noticeably cinematic is, of course, by design—Haley envisioned Galactic Melt as a “sort of film score…from the mind,” chronicling the lift and death of Com Truise, the world’s first synthetic/robotic astronaut, from his creation and life on earth to his subsequent mission to a newly discovered galaxy called “Wave 1.” Eventually, Truise becomes one with his newfound cosmos, like Pinocchio becoming a real boy, but in the nether regions of imaginary space.

Haley says knowing when and how to complete such an opus was the hardest part of making the record, nevermind all the carefully synth programmed patches on his Sequential Circuits Split-8 or the three years of real life that transpired during its genesis. It’s a world unto itself, a sci-fi bildungsroman of sorts, and most importantly, an awesome escape from the corporeal.

As modern architects envisioned, the structure of an object should primarily be based upon its intended function. Therefore, Piet Kaempfer and Ralf Dietze, aka Protonica, the architects of this creation, decided that each brick, each curve and angle should be built with a lot of thought, love and devotion. Every piece of sound you will hear vibrating through your ear canals has been specially designed from scratch, and was tested under the highest levels of professionals. Thus, Form Follows Function is not like most albums which gets produced and released for the sake of being released, it is exactly the opposite intention – to deviate from the factory like music that surrounds us and craft a form that was thoroughly thought of before, while and after it was conceived.

Form Follows Function is divided into 9 different functions, which were modeled into 9 different forms that will suit its desired function. However, the function is flexible and dynamic, and enables each person that listens to the album to adjust his own prefixed functions and slide into a liquid amorphous ever changing entity. This album is the second masterpiece from Protonica, which comes 5 years after their debut album Search, which was released in 2007. Now it seems that the search for their own style is finished, and the time to dive deep and explore the next stages of their sound has come.

After 5 years of refining and crystalizing their sound, they preserved their old Acid influences, while combining new elements of Progressive and Psychedelic Trance. Dietze and Kaempfer followed the function of their name - Protonica - which means positive charge, and always had the dance floor in mind in order to tell hypnotizing stories which will enchant every person. The guys have collaborated with other superb artists such as Liquid Soul, aka Nicola Capobianco, on the track Floating Point, and another exquisite joint venture where they marked their point of view on Ace Ventura, aka Yoni Oshrat, and Rocky's, aka Roy Tilbor, track Serotonin Overdose.

We played in the morning after Cosmosis, the weather was windy, dusty and cold...but during our set the conditions changed and it became nicer and nicer....thus reflected in the music.
Unfortunately the first 40 minutes of our set were not recorded thanx to our shitty recording device, but at least we managed to get the recording started at the "perfect" moment...the ceremony was about to begin...hear for yourself! :)

Throughout the mix there are a few glitches which are once again a result of our recording device...however, I think you wil probaly hardly notice any of them. In case you do, please excuse! :)

Enjoy this mix, its the first Back2Back session we "release" and probably not the last. We attached a track video as well which was recorded during our last track....in case you were there, this should bring some nice memories back!
