A woman wakes up to the alarming strangeness of this present day reality and wrestles with how to protest while under the covers on a sunny afternoon. 
My 2016 submission to the Very, Very, Short, Short Story Contest. I didn't win, but I had fun integrating a bunch of tape I've collected over the last few months into a weird little audio fiction piece. The piece had to be between 1-3 minutes and it followed a set of guidelines by writer Sophie McManus:

Dialogue: "It's a strange kind of justice."
Sound: Whispering
Narrative: Include the color green

Bethany embalmed bodies for a living, but she couldn’t help but empathize with every corpse she worked on, seeing her job as one final gift—one that was taking its toll. It turns out, some professions require a certain detachment.

The Funeral Director

The Ivory Billed Woodpecker was thought to be extinct – until recently, when a bird was allegedly spotted near the small town of Brinkley, Arkansas. The sightings were big news in a community depressed by recession and population loss. Our story weaves the locals' reaction with an original song written and performed by musician Sufjan Stevens.
