Marius Lauber, aka German producer Roosevelt, returns with the first new single since his sophomore album Young Romance in 2018. “Sign” is a pared-back piece of hyper-melodic digitalism, a cinematic ballad about loss and hope with a pulsating antique drum machine as the bedrock. Sparse and dazzling at the same time, “Sign” is a prime example of Roosevelt’s deft craftsmanship, paying homage to early house and vintage pop.

“Talking to Myself” is the first single from Nashville’s newest pop duo ‘chitchat.’ This self-aware pop anthem finds the listener being taken through the pages of a diary, as the song narrates someone wrestling with the complex interpersonal struggles intertwined with loneliness, depression and anxiety. 

This temperate, dreamy indie-pop track sets the tone for what to expect from the likes of ‘chitchat’ in the months to come. The duo’s vocal performance is compellingly mesmerizing and leaves little to be desired, and the emotionally raw lyricism is pleasantly packaged with vibrant melodies and catchy hooks. This feel-good vibe continues throughout the entirety of the track, alongside a groovy instrumental that creates the perfect repeat-listen experience. 

“Talking to Myself” captures the emotion of self-doubt perfectly, communicating a conflict that is real and yet simple. The narrative also provides a comfort to the listener, reminding us that often when one feels alone in their struggles, there are many around us that experience the same hardships, and we don’t have to face them alone.
