James is an Irish blues guitarist and session musician currently based in London. Having been brought up surrounded by Northern Ireland's vibrant blues music scene, James has been performing at pubs, clubs and festivals across Ireland from an early age, as well as having travelled across the UK and mainland Europe. Over the years, James has had the opportunity to be opening act for prestigious artists such as Van Morrison, Robben Ford, Mud Morganfield, and Wilko Johnson, as well as having shared the stage with Eric Bell (Thin Lizzy), Johnny Fean (Horslips), Sandi Thom, and Leon Hendrix.

James graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2015 with a BA Hons in Music/Popular Music, having previously achieved Grade 8 qualifications in both Saxophone and Electric Guitar. His skills also include songwriting, arranging, musical direction, recording, and instrument tuition.

In addition to being an accomplished blues guitarist, James has been influenced by a diverse range of artists and can adapt to playing in a variety of styles including rock, funk, soul, jazz, folk, and country. He can also read notation and has performed in the band for musical productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Fame, The Man Of La Mancha, and 9 To 5.

In May 2017, James was one of the featured artists in the Rory Gallagher Rhythm & Blues Revue as part of the International Guinness Blues On The Bay Festival. He performed with legendary Irish musicians and former members of the Rory Gallagher Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O'Neill, alongside fellow guitarists Gwyn Ashton, Ben Poole, and Grainne Duffy.

Asymmetry is a Band that describes itself as Prog Rock. It is an expression of varying musical backgrounds. Through these dynamic it allows for music to develop and express something organic and unique from all these influences. From this flows music that has dramatic and tight changes that challenges themselves and the audience.


The New Nostalgia are Patrick McCallion (vocals, guitar), James Sands (guitar), Sam Bramhall (bass guitar) and Charles Adey (drums). Their reflective and aggressive sound was born during a spontaneous trip to Amsterdam when four old university friends tried to comprehend the existential haze of their mid-twenties. The band have performed shows across the UK and The Netherlands, including a stage headline set at Long Division Festival and sold out shows in Amsterdam (including a socially distanced unplugged set in the main hall at Paradiso). They were also finalists in the NME and DIY Magazines Best Unsigned UK Bands contest for Mad Cool Festival and their track Millennial Love was a finalist and received an honorable mention in the International Songwriting Contest for Best Rock and Best Unsigned, judged by a panel including Tom Waits, Dua Lipa and Coldplay. Their debut album BLEED & BLOOM. is out September 2nd. With haunting lyrics that will get under your skin, The New Nostalgia are questioning what it means to be young at heart in the twenty-first century.
