Heavy afro-tinged sounds this week from Leeds-based leftfield party crew Cave Paintings. Taking us on a journey through psychedelic tribal disco that doesn't sound out of place in a steamy rain forest or on desert plains, their unique style has led them to curate the Dogon Village area at Festival No.6; where the thick tangled woods and trippy jungle sounds add to the ethereal atmosphere they create. We team up next Friday to bring ESP Institute's Young Marco over from Amsterdam for a debut show. Full details here:

Clandestino 046 - Cave Paintings

We all know what cave paintings are, though few of us are likely to ever need them when we're asking for directions to the nearest cash machine or need the number of a speedy takeaway service. Perhaps for most of us the idea of a cave painting has become a little outdated along with fax machines and Lady Gaga. However, there are a group of people determined to make the good name of Cave Paintings rise to the forefront of our minds once more by using it as the name for their small group of DJs, producers and promoters. We too are keen to back the return of this ancient art and therefore asked them to provide us with this 'Gathered Neatly On A Thin Raft' mix. A month after joining proceedings at our launch party for Sub Club's Nautilus Rising label, Lord of the Isles marks his return on Permanent Vacation with his Clearness of Love EP – a heedless release of four tracks that are easy picks for peaktime on the dancefloor. Club-orientated techno that still remains gentle, heavily steeped in nostalgia: from acid to ambient; and big beat to Balearic. Though perhaps not a blatant choice, the EP's closer "All I Need" is an undeniable highlight – slow-burning, earthly techno with a melody flowing through the bassline that grounds and comforts you all at once. The almost folkloric snippets of the wood flute keeps it reminiscent of Bavarian soundscapes in Recondite's Iffy.

Clearness of Love EP drops on 23rd October via Permanent Vacation.

Lord of the Isles is our guest in Hour 2 and the Scottish producer has racked up a string of releases across labels like Phonica, Shevchenko, Permanent Vacation and Japanese label Mule Musiq, on which he has a track featured on their forthcoming compilation. He had this to say about his mix;

“How many years does it take before you officialy become ‘a veteran’? Belgian producer Raphaël de Sauvage has been bossing it on the underground scene since ’96, so we reckon he’s earned that title without much sweat.“

From ’01 until ’09, his Digitalk FM show for Vibration Radio brought out a crop of Belgian guests that are better know today under their names as The Magician, Mugwump, Kolombo and Aeroplane.

The chameleonic producer has been penning fusions of ‘80s pop, dark basslines, and unhinged house beats since the mid-noughties - combinations that are by his standards ‘non-formulaic’, getting his Cabaret Nocturne cloak on in 2013, and recently signed to Beachcoma (owned by Fairmont, Metope and Sid Le Rock) with ‘Blood Walk’, which is nothing short of a slow-mo masterpiece.

In the short time since launching the project, he has also released original productions and remixes on Factor City (owned by Undo), Rotten City, Join Our Club (home of the majority of his original output), Disque Discos or Melómana.

With his musical vision he gained support from the cream of the contemporary electronic dance music crop such as Andrew Weatherall, Chloé, Cosmo Vitelli, Damian Lazarus, Daniele Baldelli, Erol Alkan, Ewan Pearson, Fairmont, Jennifer Cardini, Justin Robertson, My Favorite Robot, Tim Sweeney, Trevor Jackson …

Then there’s his monthly ‘K7 Nocturne’ podcast that sweeps up some of the shiniest exclusives and upcoming tracks from his fingertips, showing that one thing’s for certain: Raph’s got staying power.

Focusing on an ever broadening horizon, he continuing constantly his production efforts hiding himself beneath his bowler hat.
