Un ancien morceau, publié il y a trois ans puis retiré, fait peau neuve.
Je l’ai retravaillé : mix plus net, sonorités plus présentes, et toujours ce petit côté jazzy qui me plait.
Batterie en rythme syncopé, basse en contre-temps, nappes de claviers et quelques habillages subtils pour une ambiance cohérente.

This is an older track I released three years ago, then had to take down — but it’s back, refreshed and sounding better than ever.
I’ve given it a sonic polish: tighter mix, stronger presence, and that unmistakable jazzy vibe of mine.
Syncopated drums, off-beat bass, subtle keyboard layers and ambient touches all come together to shape a cohesive atmosphere.

With a lifespan of only two to four weeks, time is precious to butterflies, and it highlights a secret — butterflies possess timekeeping abilities in their antennae. 

They also can track the sun’s position with their eyes, a navigational skill used for migration, and their vision includes ultraviolet light, something humans cannot see. 

Of their many secrets — the sense of taste is in their feet, their wings are dead cells, they have existed for 60 million years, are biologically diverse with 20,000 species, and can fly as fast as 37 MPH or 59 KM/H — the fact that some butterfly species migrate thousands of miles during their short lifetimes is astonishing. 

Short lives necessitate making the best of every moment of life, and perhaps that’s the secret to the longevity of 60 million years of the butterfly species.

ARTIST’S NOTE: 
I composed Drift one afternoon in May when I was literally adrift in disappointment, feeling low, uninspired, and fatigued. Empty. How could I create when I was so low? And a thought rang back answering like a bell  — just show up!

All I had to do, my inner voice told me, was show up, put your fingers on the keyboard for a moment. And I did, using the laptop’s built-in MIDI, selecting a VST called Cinema Strings, instinctively I hit an F6 chord — I have an affinity with the key of F because, as a student, I played French Horn, an F instrument. So I’m pressing the keys, and by a slow count of eight of the metronome’s clicks — bam! The music started playing in my head as if already written. I raced to unravel it in threads of melodies, searching for keys that matched what I was hearing in my mind’s ears.

The lesson for me as an artist is to remember to keep faith despite how I might feel. Because the music is waiting for a humble vessel. Just show up.

My EP SUPERNOVA contains two Japanese songs, and this is one of them. I have never released a song in Japanese before, but I took the plunge and decided to release these. It's a song recorded in one take with my acoustic guitar and vocal. The tempo is middle tempo (I didn't use the metronome function so I don't know the BPM). 3m58s. The main genre is Folk. FOREVER BE

So, our friend (assuming he really is our friend) is no longer alone at home. The work week is over, it’s been a hard one. Maybe for both of them: for him, and for the woman now leaning out the window. There’s a touch of unease in the air, and it’s not necessarily connected to how things are going between them. Maybe something is about to happen. Or maybe not. The only sure thing is that they’re not interested in finding out.

This is the fourth in a series of eight easy, acoustic, rather short, and deliberately inconclusive tracks, assembled by combining new ideas with reworked older material, adding parts and sounds along the way. This time I struggled to make it to the end, adding and removing, changing and restoring and working to the mix. I probably messed things up a bit (thirty recorded tracks, twenty of them muted...), but never mind.

"The bonus track needs little explanation but there was a curious set of circumstances that brought it to life. Though Nic's lyrics are normally a stream of consciousness that only make sense after the event, Crystal and Crime, originally meaning something quite different, subsequently appeared in a dream, arranged for strings this time. During this peculiar dream, a whale swam around Nic. When she woke up, it somehow felt like there was a whale somewhere telling her something. (We said she was mad, didn't we? We did.). The track and this arrangement was born."
