After a monumental 2 years of Mind Field compilation, the bar was raised for something truly special!  Mind Field really does seem to have a knack for finding that pure, raw, expressive, wonderfully melodic, rich and unique music.  Christian Bachmann is all of these things... A man who hears the sounds in his head and wonderfully recreates them using a myriad of massaged analogue twists and sounds...  Berlin based Bachmann is on a dedicated mission and once again Mind Field has spotted this talent and the golden path could well have been unveiled.

On to a review of the music...  Well Ale is just Epic...  Big raw basslines with almost a hint of The Chemical Brothers in there...  Great free flowing - real Electronica!  Nice little feel good melodies... Put it in your bag for those moments of clarity and happiness!

The title Track Edelbier is just analogue phwoarrr!!!  In a peak climax kind of way...  Lights go out, tears of pain out...  This just works!

Doppelbock is as the title suggests and is once again pure hard hitting electronica...  I hear The Chemical Brothers in here again and believe me, this is not a bad thing as it's also in a whole world of its own...  Crescendo's of ecstasy with a warm driving core.

Finishing the EP off with absolute style, we have Rotwein...  Once again perfectly crafted and fitting to make this one of the best EP's yet to come out on Mind Field Records...  Christian Bachmann well done!

The Original Edelbier EP gained big support from the likes of Paul Hazendonk, Van Did, Teho, Groj, PHM, Applescal, Olaf Stuut, Noraj Cue, 10dens and many more!  It's now back with a few superb remixes.

Starting at the end of the EP, we have a special treat with a remix from none other than Hannes Rasmus, who has just released the mammoth EP titled "MUSIK FÜR FÜNF MASCHINEN" with truly cracking remixes from both Nick Dow and Egokind of the track titled "Die Rache Der Gummienten" on Traum Schallplatten.  It is a real treat to hear his very funky and deep club mix of Edelbier.  A really funky house remix with plenty of analogue juice.  Not to be missed!

The EP starts off with the magical Violin Version of Rotwein proving that Christian Bachmann has his musical theory and performance really mastered.  Combined with rhythmical violin taps and multiple layers of violin, this is a really lovely sound that is really unique and a true representation of what Mind Field Records aims to be all about.

In the middle we have some sounds from the wonderful Martin Matiske - A remix of Ale that progresses really nicely in a rock solid techno groove kind of way.  Another really cool remix.

All in all a fantastic follow-up remixes EP for Bachmann and Mind Field Records.  Expected to make some serious waves...

London-based electronic songwriter Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles to release his most personal work to date in the form of a mini-album titled ‘Night Melody’ through Erased Tapes on 5th August 2016.

During the release of his acclaimed full-length album ‘Howl’ and heavy touring in late 2015, Ryan came out of a long relationship and found himself making music throughout the winter months. The result of his efforts is a 34-minute, 6-track mini album ‘Night Melody’, born out of and shaped by long hours working into the night. It’s nocturnal in sound; mysterious in the way that the early hours so often are.

“I found myself, in a silent home, with the days getting dark very early. I’ve never before in my life been affected by the lack of light so much. I just remember it always being night time. I would either make music into the night, go out drinking with friends, or go to parties and dance into the early hours, every day, week after week, month after month, until eventually the days became brighter again.”

The opening statement ‘Pattern of the North’ starts off with a collage of spliced synth melodies, inspired by anxiety that accompanies going home for Christmas. It’s followed by ‘Johannesburg’, an early sketch gradually filled out during his tour in South Africa. 

“After playing it around some of the cities, I got a lot of inspiration to bring it to life and push it into something that really moves me. I think this is one of my most colourful pieces of music, with its driving rhythm and almost a homage to Terry Riley’s ‘In C’ towards the end, with a build of very simple, hypnotic parts. I especially love that for over five minutes the piece is tied to just one note. This makes the ending very dramatic, because all of a sudden there is this harmonic change.”

‘Lone’ started life around the time Ryan was working on his ‘Sonne’ EP in 2014. It’s the result of constant adjustments to find the perfect balance of fragility and assurance. As everything on the album, it’s a carefully considered, emotionally mature piece. “I think, as I get older, I need music to represent something and not just sound interesting, though of course the two are connected.”

The closing statement ‘What Sorrow’ is a fitting end to the album, building from gentle melancholia to a joyous crescendo. It’s a sensibility that’s central to the record; joy and sorrow both find their counterpoints.

“This record is very personal to me and I hope it offers something for other people, as it helped me to make it and to listen to it. Almost every synth line was recorded intuitively, without perfection but with a lot of intention and expression. I’m not interested in making something sad or making something happy. I want music to be bittersweet, to be more complex, like life – containing moments of vibrant colour and hope, as much as darkness and sadness.”

This summer will see Ryan follow on from his recent North American Tour with the appearance at many festivals including Lovebox, Secret Garden Party, La Route Du Rock, Sea Change and Tale of Us-curated Afterlife party at Space, Ibiza. ‘Night Melody’ will be available on 12” vinyl and digitally, August 5th.

The Story before: 

When i heard the Album Trance Frendz of Olafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm for the first time, i directly felt a connection to the song they both started together at 00:26. The fine textures of the synths and the subtle evolution in this one-taker brought up the idea of having a version i can play in the late nights on the dance floor but which also would work perfectly for listening in your comfort zone. 

The drums and way of how the remix should flow came naturally and as i had the song standing i layered the original stems here and there to have the track playing in some kind of canon. As i was very happy with my personal version i sent it out to https://soundcloud.com/olafur-arnalds, https://soundcloud.com/erasedtapes & the rest of the participants of this project. Gladly Olafur picked up my remix and forwarded the song to the label which lead to having this unofficial version approved to share with you out there. I hope you like it and thanks to Erased Tapes and all involved for the support :)
