In the mid 90s as a teenager, I owned and operated a mobile Dj service in High School playing music at high school dances and various events including weddings and private functions. I eventually managed to land a full time resident Dj position at a local club and remained there Djing various genres of muisc for 15 years. Later in life my journey would lead me to my first music festival in 2009, exposing me to a whole new world of Djing and electronic music. My love for Djing exploded again and with the help of soo many patient friends I embarked on a new journey to reteach myself the art of djing and spinning house music. Attending music festivals for many years to follow became a natural part of my life. I lam always ready to bring my style and my love of various genres of house music and high energy to the. stage and to the dance floor. Djing is what I love to do. It is my passion!!

Tāndāv Musicā, the brainchild of Halifax DJ Jay Vyas, emerges from the scenic shores of Nova Scotia. With a deep-rooted love for electronic house music that began in his teens, Jay explores a diverse range of genres, including melodic, organic, afro, Indo-house, and techno, infused with influences from Sufi, Indian classical, and Bollywood music.

Inspired by his South Asian heritage and a passion for cultural fusion, Jay's music transcends genre boundaries, weaving expansive textures and hypnotic rhythms that evoke both liberation and connection on the dance floor. His artistic vision, shaped by the cycles of creation, preservation, and dissolution, celebrates the timeless power of dance and music.

Jay has made a significant mark on the Atlantic Canada festival circuit, performing at events such as Future Forest and Electric Pines, and opening for Vibrancy Festival, which featured industry icons like Danny Tenaglia, Chloe Anderson, Conducta, Chloe Robinson, and Maya Jane Coles. As the founder and driving force behind Labyrinth HFX, he continues to spotlight local talent, curating unforgettable experiences for Halifax’s growing electronic music community.

I entered the music scene as DJ Heartattack in 1995, when I launched a Jungle, Drum & Base radio show on CKDU (88.1FM) (ckdu.ca) called “Hardcore Nightmares on Wax.” I still do the show, now called “Freshtables,” every Wednesday night, though now I cover the latest in electronic dance music (EDM). Over the years I’ve introduced local listeners to the sounds of Jungle, Dubstep, and Moombahton.

I continue to spin Drum & Bass, Bass / Dubstep, Deep Dubstep, House, Bass House, Tech House, Techno and Indie Dance / Nu-Disco whenever I get the chance.

Disco For Funky Monkeys!

Hot-stepping into the disco jungle, Hot Gorilla Records blur the lines between disco, funk, house and reworked edits. And they come at you with one aim and one aim only - to make you go bananas on the dancefloor!

Founded by Andy Buchan and Conan The Selector in May 2020 as the pandemic hit, the duo brought some much-needed ‘good times’ to the disco scene. And when clubs did open up again, they were straight into action, touring the UK as DJ support for The Brand New Heavies including sold-out dates in Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. 

Musically they strut the line between disco, funk and house, championing original music and heavily reworked edits. 

And they’ve had plenty of dance floor success including several Juno Download No.1s, multiple Traxsource Top 10s and four tracks in the Best of 2021 Beatport chart. 

The Hot Gorilla Records family currently includes founders Andy Buchan and Conan The Selector alongside guests like Fingerman, Chewy Rubs, Mannix, Monsieur Van Pratt, Akeem Raphael and a big troop of funky monkeys. 

And with an album on the way, a 2nd birthday to celebrate in May 2022 and gigs across the UK and beyond, Hot Gorilla Records will continue to bring the ‘Good Times’ as they make people go bananas on the dancefloor.

If persistence and passion is a recipe for success, Nate Laurence (Minneapolis, MN, USA) characterizes the journey. Nate is, of course, the quadruple threat: veteran DJ since 1994, prolific producer, event-coordinator, and label owner.

Nate has always been a DJ first. Once known as DJ Unity – a patron of former Minneapolis RAVE troupe “UNIK Communications” – Nate has labored for his place in house music. A career that developed over the course of a decade – largely behind the scenes – has now become impossible to ignore. Amid absurd energy behind the decks – layered with dexterous turntablism – Nate impresses even the most cynical critics one at a time “leaving wows in his wake.” Today, Nate remains active with gigs reaching as far as Europe, Southern Africa, and throughout the United States. Though national and international bookings keep him busy, in 2009 Nate fulfilled an enduring aspiration and true privilege by becoming a resident DJ at the legendary First Avenue Nightclub in Minneapolis.

After living in his second home of Cape Town, South Africa in 2001, Nate focused on production. Since then, his discog has grown at a reputable pace. With rookie releases on Flatpack Traxx, Funkfield, and Control Recordings, Nate proved his aptitude as a gifted producer. His distinct production style has continued to mature, signing EPs with Spatula City, Guesthouse, Love Network, Onethirty, Mindtravel, and Flapjack Records to name but a few. In 2007, Nate partnered with Chicago-based beatmaker, Scrubfish (Scott Kammer) and together they continue to reach Top100 lists worldwide while each new release continues to outshine subsequent releases.

In 2008 Nate created “HotDish.” HotDish is both a collaborative of DJs (Nate and good friend J Matthews) and an event crew that has become an illustrious house movement in Minneapolis. Finally, in 2011 Nate began a new philanthropic record label, Pluralistic Records. Pluralistic Records releases distinct and unique tracks that cross the boundaries between Chicago, Detroit, disco house, and tech house...or simply, house. 

Notably, Nate (the academic) is also a Social Justice advocate, activist, and educator working at the University of Minnesota. This part of him is infused in his music, his branding, and all that he works to accomplish. Keep your eyes open for this talented and very different househead - who continues to give his all to keep the music fresh and far-reaching.
