Souleance return with a brand new EP for First Word Records. Following the huge success of 'La Beat Tape' in early 2013, the French duo have been busy in the studio preparing a 6-tracker aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Souleance is the result of the partnership between producer Fulgeance (check his new LP 'Cubes') and DJ Soulist of legendary Paris event What The Funk. In 2008 they released their debut EP 'Le Monde' which along with follow up 'Le Plaisir' is one of First Word's all-time bestsellers. 2012 saw their debut LP 'La Belle Vie' released to widespread critical acclaim, winning them fans including Gilles Peterson, Lefto and Laurent Garnier. With an eye-catching live show now up and running (check their recent charismatic appearance on Boiler Room for evidence) Souleance are going from strength to strength.
The new EP is exactly what you'd expect from Souleance, taking in 80s influenced electro (Brotha, Broobecker & Vacances), audacious sample flips (Georgian Kiss), infectious-grooved hip hop (Mais Um) and up-tempo tropical beats (Tropicalidad). All six tracks are guaranteed club winners that only Souleance could deliver.

Wonderwheel Recordings is proud to present the debut EP & a remix 12" for new signing Alsarah & The Nubatones. Called “The New Star Of Nubian Pop” by The Guardian, the album was produced solely by Alsarah who describes the sound of Silt as “East African Retro Pop” - it’s music that harkens back to the hazy sounds of 1960s and 70s Nubian music with its haunting instrumentation, soaring vocal melodies, and pentatonic arrangements. 

The original song “Soukura” with is a small taste of her upcoming album Silt (out on 3/11) and gets a signature deep and entrancing Ancestral Soul remix by African house legend Boddhi Satva . Perennial Wonderwheel favorite The Spy From Cairo gives "Nuba Noutou" a dubby dancehall re-rub, and label head Nickodemus takes "Rennat" into late night house territory with his remix, letting only the slightest of vocals come through and build tension until the final moments of the tune. 

Alsarah, is a Sudanese born singer, songwriter and ethnomusicologist. Born in the capital city of Khartoum, where she spent the first 8 years of her life, she relocated to Taez, Yemen with her family to escape the ever stifling regime in her native country. She abruptly moved to the US in 1994, when a brief civil war broke out in Yemen. Now residing in Brooklyn, NY, she is a self-proclaimed practitioner of East-African retro-pop. Working on various projects, she most recently has been working with The Nile Project and was featured on their debut release, Aswan (named 1 of the Top 5 “Must Hear” international albums by NPR). She has also collaborated with French producer Débruit on the album Aljwal, released this past November via Soundway Records UK.

The New Gold Standard 2 Remixed EP 2 is the second in a series of releases of remixes from the Fort Knox Recordings’ 2009 hit compilation, The New Gold Standard 2. This new release features 4 freshly-minted remixes of Empresarios, and Nappy Riddem.

The New Gold Standard 2 Remixed EP 2 showcases stellar remixes of the new roster additions to Fort Knox Recordings.

Nappy Riddem, the new super group featuring Fort Knox Recordings stalwarts Rex Riddem and Mustafa Akbar, along side Thievery Corporation live-band bassist, Ashish “Hash” Vyas, show the breadth of their new sound with “One World Sovereignty”, featuring Asheru (Unspoken Heard, “The Boondocks Theme”). We grabbed Bay Area Beat Doctor, J.Boogie, to add his signature dubby house flavor to “One World Sovereignty”. With a glitchy bassline, and dub fx reminiscent of Mad Professor, J.Boogie presents this song in a totally different light.

Empresarios is a group co-formed by Javier Miranda, a Fort Knox Five and See-I collaborator. They make their debut with two sizzlers. “Sabor Tropical,” featuring the vocal stylings of Francisco Rosado and Felix Perez, crosses the boundaries of Latin funk and reggaeton while “Cumbia” drives further south with a red-hot Latin trip-hop groove. Nickodemus of Turntables on the Hudson fame, reworked “Cumbia” into a dizzy latin funk bomb. With a massive kick drum, and a shuffling dub beat, this will be a tune for any beat aficionado. On “Sabor Tropical,” we had two amazing remixes turned in. The first from DJ Sabo, gives “Sabor Tropical” a funky latin house feel. It features a stunning breakdown followed by a lovely keyboard solo by Argentinian musician, Dario Boente. For the second remix, Nappy Riddem handed us a breakbeat driven carnival styled rework. It features the extra vocal stylings of Mustafa Akbar, along with a rumbling bassline, and a massive shuffling beat.

With sounds ranging from trip hop to hip-hop, latin to reggaeton, and some serious funk & soul thrown in, The New Gold Standard 2 Remixed EP 2 raises the bar once again, showcasing all the talented artists on Fort Knox Recordings.

This mix was made exclusively for Boddhi Satva's (VEGA Records, Ancestral Recordings) radio show out of Belgium called "Frequencies of Offering". Its a weekly online show featuring some of the biggest names in deep Afro House music, such as Culoe De Song, Black Coffee, DJ Djeff, and Anane Vega.  I am already a huge fan of Boddhi's and the South African House sound, so I was really surprised, and honored when Boddhi asked me to do a Moombahton show for him. I spent a lot of time on this and really wanted to make it special, not like any other Moombahton mix out there. I included lots of African and South American inspired tracks on here , as well as some Soulful ones too. I even made a few exclusive edits just for this mix. Nickodemus is a traveler at heart—a connector of worlds, scenes, and people since the mid-90s. Over his extensive career as a touring DJ and producer, including 5 albums and canonical tunes like “My Swing es Tropical” and “Cleopatra in New York”, he’s helped pave the way for an inimitable mix of global fusion and the heavy beats we yearn for in the club. His latest album, A Long Engagement, serves as a culmination of the inspirations he’s absorbed and remains rooted in his life as native New Yorker and the city’s nostalgic energy. 

Nickodemus’ sound is often focused on the connective tissue of his many live collaborations and the electronic solitude of his studio (or record-filled bubble, as he calls it). Through his much-loved label Wonderwheel Recordings, he’s not only regularly releasing some of the most soul-shaking, eclectic sounds in the biz, but focusing deeply on artist development and creating long-lasting moments that live on far longer than their track length. The music you hear in his releases are filled with expression, reflection, and care; they’re both open-minded and deeply focused, a rarity at time in today’s overcrowded music industry. 

As a remixer, he’s also lent his “Remix Machine” to a wide range of artists including pioneers like Bob Marley and Nina Simone, as well as other like minded genre-welders like Thievery Corporation, Quantic, and Mr. Scruff. Throughout his career he’s also carved an important niche in the live music scene with his beloved Turntables on the Hudson parties, that have popped up everywhere from New York to Cairo.  
 
Currently on tour around Europe & USA, his latest album "Soul and Science" is another portrait into the importance of shared ideas and the dialogue artists can share when they look past language or place of birth. It’s another bass-heavy global party and we’re all invited.
