Guan Yun Chang was a Chinese figure from about 1,800 years ago.

He is a popular figure in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, and for some reason is now worshipped as a god of commerce.

He remained loyal to Liu Bei, the founder of Shu Han, and was admired by many of his contemporaries, including Cao Cao, for his extraordinary bravery and sense of duty.

Among the military commanders appearing in "Epic of the Three Kingdoms," he was as popular as Zhuge Liang, and because he valued righteousness, later generations deified him and designated him as the Guan Di (Guan Emperor).

He is worshiped as the god of business in Chinatowns around the world. He is given special treatment in "Epic of the Three Kingdoms" and is described as Kwan Gong rather than Guan Yu.

It's finally time to set off on your journey, and it's an exciting moment as you wonder what kind of world awaits you!


In 5 billion years, the sun we see every day will exhaust its fuel and meet its end. The sun, which will expand larger than Earth's orbit, will engulf the planet and obliterate everything on it. If humanity manages to avoid extinction and maintain its civilization, we will abandon our mother Earth and migrate to another planet. However, the sun of that new planet will also eventually die, and once again, we will set off for another planet. There is no place in this universe where humanity can live permanently.

Is this tragedy, which will occur 5 billion years from now, the first of its kind in this universe? No, it is a catastrophe that has struck countless intelligent life forms over the course of 13.7 billion years. There must have been life forms that, after repeated cycles of war-induced civilizational collapse and rebuilding, could not escape in time and were wiped out by the death of their star. 

Will humanity be able to depart before the death of the sun?


The melody and arrangement are from the MacOS7 era, about 30 years ago.
The external synthesizer sounds that were played with this MIDI file at the time no longer exist.
I replaced them with similar sounds, but I may revise them again.

Dear Reader, 

Sometimes when I place my hands on the piano, chords sequences just happen. This was the case with Thickets of Time. I suddenly found myself playing the strange inversions of the first four chords, and then I was off. The rest of the song wrote itself. 

The beautiful delay on the drums was an accident. A happy accident. I love it when that happens. 

This calendar year has had its hills and valleys, and no doubt anyone who has been listening to my music can hear both ends of the geographical spectrum. I don't believe that this song reflects any one moment, but is simply a statement of what it is to be human living in time. 

I hope you find something of value in the song.
