"I live in a small scene-less seaside town called Southport in the North West of England where there isn’t much to do other than wander beaches, parks and dunes and nab vinyl from the record and charity shops with intent to make tunes. Growing up I've been exposed to all types of music from Jazz to Jungle, Easy Listening to Hardcore, you name it. I like all kinds of music and try to incorporate elements from multiple genres fused with my favourite heartbeat - breakbeat Jungle. Here I present to you a collection of tunes I’ve produced using an combination of software and hardware. Themes include procrastination, disgruntlement, isolation, quarrels and boredom. Ladies and Gentleman I present to you Lost Realms."

Wisconsin-based producer and drummer Chants (The Trilogy Tapes, Maximum Airtime, Astral Plane Recordings) meets master drummer Dave Schoepke on this all-drums LP for Brussels-based Maloca Records. ‘Speleogenesis’ blends live drumming with dub techniques and dancefloor-informed production, guided by imagery of a subterranean world. It’s a full-circle moment, as the two met when Chants (aka Jordan Cohen) took drum lessons from Schoepke during his teenage years.

The recording process began with Chants creating skeletal demos for Dave Schoepke to improvise on. Schoepke recorded many layers of drums and percussion, running some of them through his hardware synthesizers. Chants then shaped these recordings, resulting in the cavernous dub techno track ‘Pressure Slide’, the Brazilian-influenced ‘Ritmo Crudo’ and ‘Ritmo Puro’, and the uptempo, slippery dancehall dub of ‘The Quickstepper’.

Chants then assembled a new palette of samples from this core and constructed dancefloor-focused bangers like the hyperactive ‘Cyclone Rhythm’ and minimal 170 bpm ‘Rafter’, adding his own homegrown breakbeats. As the album took shape, the music kept evoking mental images of caves, tunnels, and underwater caverns that in turn influenced the final pieces. ‘Notes from Underground’ and ‘Speleogenesis’ present a more unfiltered view of Schoepke’s nuanced drumming. ‘Airbell Dub’ was also created using material from one of Schoepke’s meditative solo performances. Finally, ‘Cavernicole’ features both drummers in full duet mode, trading phrases over an insistent kick drum pulse.

this mix is both an insight into lúnasa's daily listening as well as a taster of the kind of thing you can expect her to play in clubs, with plenty of drums as well as some bits of punk and folk working their way through the club-centric sounds.

The work is contrasting aural places of intimacy and enclosure with expansive spaces and propagates through their interaction.  The title is borrowed from a painting by René Magritte, depicting two coffins seated in a mountainous landscape. The source materials for the work have been recorded with an 18 channel microphones arrange in a globe shape, encoded in Higher Order Ambisonics. The work was completed with the support of Musiques & Recherches at the Métamorhose d'Orphée studio during in the summer of 2024.

Epitaxy is the process of “the growth of crystals of one material on the crystal face of another material, such that the crystalline substrates of both materials have the same structural orientation.”  When the materials have similar lattice constants - i.e. the atoms of the crystal are the same distance from each other - the two materials match and uniform layers are formed: this is known as homoepitaxy. When the two materials have different lattice constants, the molecular structures of the substances involved in the process are ‘stretched’ to form links between the layers: this is known as heteroepitaxy. In this case the general scope of these scientific processes accurately reflects the compositional rationale of the piece.

Finalist in SCRIME  2008 electroacoustic composition competition.

The material for the work was developed out of simple and short sounds that
accidentally occurred in the digital studio during previous work: (clicks, pops, digital
distortion et cetera). These sounds were transformed into more organic, gestural
material using mainly the GRM Classic plug-ins in a Pro-Tools environment. The
only field recording used in the piece is the sound of crickets, used here to
establish a nocturnal soundscape. This is in contrast with the otherwise rather
abstract sound world, which exhibits timbral characteristics perceptually related to
materials such as wood, metal, water and combinations of thereof.
