Then it's a dancehall classic from Johnny Osbourne over the Sleng Teng riddim and new music from H-SIK and Dawn Day Night splicing up Foster Sylvers, before unleashing the sublime gospel vocals of Pastor T.L. Barrett. Solid Steel (13th September) We welcome London Elektricity to the show having appeared 4 times from '99 to 2002 and as always, we wanted something a little different. Here in his own words;
"I'm known for being a d&b DJ who leans towards the eccentric side, so here's a mix that represents the weird and wonderful music that keeps me from falling asleep whilst driving home from a night club. Most of these records were blind purchases - or should that be deaf purchases - I bought the records on the strength of the artwork alone, usually featuring improbably large breasted and frankly weird looking women silhouetted against a backdrop of Hawaii. This is music to perhaps help you dream of summer, or maybe to prepare you for your own demise. That not withstanding remember this: I know what it is to be young, but you, you don't know what it is to be old."

Solid Steel (20th September) Strictly Kev gives us a companion to his earlier 'O Is For Orange' mix with another selection based around the Boards of Canada sound called 'T Is For Trapped'. Hitting a more techno vein for the first half, he threads tracks from The Simonsound, Sanctums, Alva Noto and Boards in their Hell Interface guise into the travelogue. There's unreleased material in the form of his extended re-edit of 'Reach For The Dead' and the Peel Session track 'XYZ' as well as lead track by Le Boac, a new project by Posthuman. He then takes it into darker ambient territory with John Carpenter, Alan Howarth and Vangelis before emerging into the sunlight with a whole heap of older Ghost Box material.

Robin Hexstatic in Hour 2 this week with a bass heavy selection and celebrating the release of 2 tracks from his new RobHex project. Starting with some lovely remixes from the likes of Psychemagik and Cause and Effect,..there’s also the pounding Robert Babicz remix of Hardfloor’s classic acid anthem. The first of two RobHex tracks and into a fresh new track from the ever brilliant DJ Zinc. Phuture and Bart B More bring the heavy acid and into a bouncing remix of Au Seve from The Stantons and classic cut up vocals from Taches. A bassline remix of DJ Kentaro leads to the classically relentless La Mouche from Cassius,..and on into another new RobHex track. "Doing a tribute mix to Luke Vibert and his multiple production pseudonyms is not a challenge I took lightly. His versatility is what drew me into electronic music in my youth and he has in my opinion one the most diverse bodies of work in recent electronic music history, through Moody Abstract Hip-Hop, Acid House, Disco, Drum & Bass and House. I wanted to do this mix because a lot of people might know Luke Vibert from one of his multiple personas without connecting the dots with the other projects. Big respect to Luke Vibert and all his split personalities."

In Hour 2 we have a double-header of a mix starting with special guest Matt Berry, well known for his appearances in The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh and more recently Toast of London. He's also a musician in his own right with several albums under his belt, the latest being 'Music For Insomniacs'  where he channels the synthesised soundscapes of Vangelis and Mike Oldfield. There's no track list as he's currently recording the next series of Toast but he plugs into musicals like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Jesus Christ Superstar, soundtrack work by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth and pop from Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Kate Bush.
Following in his wake is DJ Food with the first installment of a new mix series called Magpie Music which focuses on distorted drums, fuzz bass and the more psychedelic side of his current tastes. Expect music from The Soundcarriers, Pond, tUnE-yArDs and the Osmonds plus unreleased gems from Mophono and The Group Modular.

Solid Steel Radio Show 5/12/2014 Part 3 + 4 - DK

Solid Steel in association with Serato (30th July) DK takes charge of hour 1 and straight in with two hot new tracks from Big Dada. New signing DELS with the excellent 'Shapeshift' (and a great video to match), followed by the grandaddy of UK hip hop, Roots Manuva with at track from his upcoming EP alongside Wrongtom. A nod to Melvin Bliss (RIP) and his well sampled track 'Synthetic substitution', before we up the pace with Flore and Total Science & S.P.Y. Chali 2na hits the button marked dubstep, plus more wobbles from Cakeboy and Toddla T, remixed by Benga. Big Daddy Kane and PE represent the old skool (and a taste of the second hour) and it sounds like Fred Wesley's 'Blow your head' inspired an African version by 'Rob' on the superb Afro-Beat Airways compilation. Mount Kimbie, L VIS 1990, Sepalcure and Bunny on Acid bring the first hour to a lush close.

Solid Steel (14th June) This week on Solid Steel there's a definite African feel to the set list. Strictly Kev kicks things off with a mix of music he calls 'Afreaka'. Percussion heavy funk with a tribal feel, from Madlib sample grabs to Malcolm McLaren or Eno & Byrne's imagined ethnic soundscapes. For part two we welcome Melt Yourself Down into the guest slot for a whole world fusion of flavours from Ali Hassan Kuban to the Mad Decent stable.
