Solid Steel (13th September) We welcome London Elektricity to the show having appeared 4 times from '99 to 2002 and as always, we wanted something a little different. Here in his own words;
"I'm known for being a d&b DJ who leans towards the eccentric side, so here's a mix that represents the weird and wonderful music that keeps me from falling asleep whilst driving home from a night club. Most of these records were blind purchases - or should that be deaf purchases - I bought the records on the strength of the artwork alone, usually featuring improbably large breasted and frankly weird looking women silhouetted against a backdrop of Hawaii. This is music to perhaps help you dream of summer, or maybe to prepare you for your own demise. That not withstanding remember this: I know what it is to be young, but you, you don't know what it is to be old."

Solid Steel (22nd November) The Amorphous Androgynous (aka The Future Sound of London) grace us with a selection of tracks and inspirations from their newly released albums, 'The Cartel' vol, 1&2. Based around the theme of 'Psychesploitation' - a mix of funky 70's cop soundtracks and fuzzed up Blacksploitation flicks - it's the sound of Get Carter's swinging London and the sleazy San Francisco of Dirty Harry. DJ Food takes us down a dark, synthetic future route full of esoteric pieces more at home in sci-fi soundtracks and public information films. Tracks feature from compilations, 'The Sound of Belgium', 'Music Sans Frontiers' and 'Space Oddities' as does music from the new Richard Norris/Luke Insect collaboration Dark Seed.

In Hour 2 the countdown starts for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary night at Fire in London with a mix from DK that features some of the artists playing including Mr Scruff, Robin Hexstatic, Four Tet and the new single from Illum Sphere. There's more new music from Ninja Tune with forthcoming tracks from  Falty DL, Beat Spacek and a Maya Jane Coles remix for Bonobo.

DJ Food steps up with a companion piece to last week's 30 minute mix - Strictly Kev delves deeper and darker into ghostly electronic waters. An acoustic cover of Boards of Canada's Reach For the Dead, V.I.V.E.K.'s stunning Mantra and Machinedrum's Centre Your Love lighten the mood slghtly before we delve into witchcraft and sounds from abandoned buildings.

Our next guest is @mr-scruff , who released his Solid Steel mix CD in 2004 and has clocked up more hours DJing with his extended sets than anyone else. He'll be playing a 4 hour vinyl set with Illum Sphere tonight and here we're treated to another sublime selection to get us in the mood. Opening with Jean Grae, Mos Def and Black Milk, then into the lush vocals of Sweet Charles and Rufas & Chaka Khan. Then we touch down in Brazil with Arthur Verocai and Africa with Os Kiezos Orchestre Super Poly Rythmo De Cotonou and Manu Dibango, plus loads more from Roy Ayers, Hudson People Sam Most and an excellent version of Voodoo Ray by the Melodians Steel Orchestra.

Solid Steel (6th December) It's a specially extended session this week as we prepare for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary night in London tonight with two of the DJ's that are playing. 
DK steps up with the first part of his own retrospective on his time at Solid Steel. Having started on the show in 1997 and over 400 mixes later, here is just a few personal favourites starting in '97 with Data and the Underdog remix, aka Trevor Jackson who is another artist playing tonight. Then it's early 90's hip hop from Jeru, OC, Pharcyde and Crooklyn Dodgers, before Steve Reich and a nod to The Orb, (also playing tonight) followed by two epic vocal outings from Andreya Triana and Lamb. It's a few Jazz, Latin and African selections including the Fela cover by Johnny Rodrigues, which got DK his first offer to do a mix by Coldcut. After that we get through more gems from Caribou, Zomby, Bobby Konders, Fink, Radiohead and 3 appearances from Four Tet, our special guest tonight, before closing on the obscure Dr Philter Banx from 1975. The second half of this mix will be next week.........

Using Serato's Video-SL plug-in for Scratch Live, they mix, scratch and blend the sound AND vision for each track they play. Months were spent creating videos for each piece of music, either using the original source material or, in most cases sampling footage to create a new video entirely. Described as 'Video Turntablism', it has become a way for Food & DK to visualize their already legendary DJ sets. 
As usual, it's the diverse mix of music that they love and are known for, taking in current faves from Foreign Beggars & Noisia, Joy Orbison and Dorian Concept, but also plenty of classics that have kept dancefloors rocking from TTC, Pendulum, Luke Vibert, Think Tank and Z-Trip. "Doing a tribute mix to Luke Vibert and his multiple production pseudonyms is not a challenge I took lightly. His versatility is what drew me into electronic music in my youth and he has in my opinion one the most diverse bodies of work in recent electronic music history, through Moody Abstract Hip-Hop, Acid House, Disco, Drum & Bass and House. I wanted to do this mix because a lot of people might know Luke Vibert from one of his multiple personas without connecting the dots with the other projects. Big respect to Luke Vibert and all his split personalities."

21 year old Miami native Ricky Remedy has taken the trap/edm torch and is lapping the world with it right now. Ricky’s new EP on Mad Decent / Jeffree’s showcases his maddest tracks to date. “Make Me” starts off the EP with a elbow-throwing banger, complete with 1000 tuned “ugh’s” to fill your daily quota. Second in line is “Riccochet”, which sees Ricky changing gears to a house tempo and quite frankly killing this track. Is it jungle terror? Are birds calling in for reinforcements? We aren’t sure, but half of the club just turned into shamans in the middle of ayahuasca trip.  And finally, speeding up the tempo one more time, we get a high speed annihilator of a track that leaves the rest in the dust with “Still Wylin”.

DJ Moneyshot's 'You Are The Infinity' mix from February hit the right button, with crisp drum kicks of vintage Jungle added to a hypnotic dose of self-help records, Rock breaks, classic Hip-Hop and downtempo beats. Hexstatic's mix from May celebrating their 'Trailer Trax' album, got your vote and it also came with it's own Video mix. Taking it's lead from the cheese of drive-in cinema trailers, 'Grindhouse' style movies and those Saturday Morning Cinema shorts of all our youths,..we see and hear these elements sliced and diced with techno, dubstep, dancehall and drum and bass rhythms into a whipped up frenzy that's 'now available in the foyer!'..... 'The Mighty Gammera' destroy Tokyo in a flash, 'Galaxy Invaders' scare rednecks with ill fitting plastic suits. Mix in some other favorites from the likes of Mantronix, Dizzee Rascal and DJ Hazard and you have one Blockbuster of a mix!

Also from May, Strictly Kev's winner brewed up a mix with a distinct whiff of Brit nostalgia taking in vintage electronica, psychedelic folk, outer space beats and deep dubstep. Moon Wiring Club, Broadcast &amp; The Focus Group and Lost Idol all featured, plus tracks from Blockhead, James Pants and Gil Scott Heron.

We finish our review of 2010 looking back at the most popular mixes by the 'Old Skool' Solid Steel residents, as voted by you the listeners. Again,'In no particular order', we start with DK's mix from March kicking off with the excellent Warrior One remix of 'Eyesdown' by Bonobo and continue in a leftfield uptempo groove with Martyn, Joy Orbison and Octa Push, before dropping the huge bomb that is the Nero remix of 'Sincere'. More bass heavy beats follow, before dropping down with new music from the legendary Gil Scott-Heron, Jay Electronica and the original from Billy Stewart. 

Coldcut's mix from October was part of the Ninja Tune 20th anniversary celebrations, where they plucked out a few gems from the back catalogue as well as looking forward with tracks from the Ninja Tune XX compilation. DJ Vadim, The Bug and Ghislain Porier all feature alongside remixes of Coldcut tracks from King Jammy and United States of Audio, plus they have their own take on The Heavy's 'How you like me now'.
