Legendary duo Matt Black and Jonathan More aka Coldcut deliver a boundless career spanning Bleep mix. Since the late 1980s, their sound has morphed from cut-and-paste approaches into some of the foundations of every alternative and electronic hip-hop LP made well into the millennium. In Hour 2 DJ Food steps up with a special 25th Anniversary mix for the Apollo record label and explained;
"It's hard to underestimate the importance and influence the Apollo label had on electronic music in the 90s, alongside Warp Records and its parent label, R&S, it released some of the most classic ambient electronica in Europe. Originally set up to release Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works vol.1' in 1992 as an alternative to the harder, clubbier sounds coming from the already well established R&S, it went on to host premier recordings from Bioshphere, David Morley, Robert Leiner, Locust and Sun Electric. 
Appearances from Global Communications, early Orbital offshoot Kinetic, The Orb, Andrea Parker, Model 500, Mixmaster Morris, Jam & Spoon, Cabaret Voltaire, John Beltran, Thomas Fehlmann, Dave Angel, Ken Ishi, Billy Ray Martin, Riz Maslen, Pete Namlook... the list reads like a who's who of electronic and ambient music.
Winding down around the early 00's it was reactivated five years ago to release new music and this year sees the 25th anniversary of the label with a reissue of 'Selected Ambient Works vol.1' already in the shops. Search for Apollo on a digital service like Beatport however and you won't find it although some of the titles are available under the R&S banner, best head to Discogs to flip through the seven pages of releases and discover the many treasures hidden in their catalogue. Or start with the mix they commissioned me to make from a personal selection of my favourites from back in the day to celebrate, which Solid Steel hosts exclusively from today."

Artificial intelligence, a sublabel of Warp.

The best of Warp records and ambient-techno from 1991 to 1998. In 1992, Warp records released the highly influential compilation Artificial intelligence that was 25 years ago. I made this mix of my favorite Warp tracks but also some other tracks released on similar influential labels at the same time such as GPR (General production recordings), Rising high records and Apollo. 1991 to 1995 was for me the best era of electronic music. For the 50th entry in our mix series, we are super hyped to present this hour-long electronic adventure from @Plaid. Since the early 90's, Plaid has consistently released a stream of mind-expanding LPs for @warp-records, yet for their Bleep mix they offer us a very rare opportunity to experience the sounds that inspire, influence and rotate inside their studio station. From the up to the minute breakbeat techno of Skee Mask, to the euphoric glow of Jon Hopkins and into the outer-reaching wormholes of @richarddevine's most outer-reaching submissions, Plaid cross all genres with a strong knowledgeable style, one that has arguably made them such a historically important artist within both the UK and worldwide electronica scenes.

In Hour 2 It's DJ Food with his Solid Steel 30 'A Dream Within A Dream Within A Dream' mix featuring Humanoid. Part of Solid Steel since the early 90's and still producing incredible mixes, this time including a special exclusive mix within. He had this to say;
'What to do to celebrate 30 years of Solid Steel? The original eclectic mix show with the broadest beats in London - how about try something a bit different? I wanted to take a bunch of motorik, minimal tracks and fuse them together into a steady pulse of polyrhythms and then add more layers. Almost treating sections of songs like samples, building layers over each other to create a bigger picture rather than two tracks end to end. Some appear for seconds, some repeatedly thread in and out of the mix, it twists and turns and wrong-foots you occasionally, switching the mood. 
Also within the set is an Easter egg - an exclusive, newly recorded nest of tracks by Humanoid (aka Brian Dougans) who, when Solid Steel started out, was simultaneously launching his own career with the success of his acid classic, 'Stakker Humanoid', in the British pop charts 30 years ago. Originally a fan of Solid Steel radio himself and later forming the Future Sound of London with Gary Cobain, their incredible radio mixes would in turn be a huge inspiration to me in the 90s.
After 25 years as part of the Solid Steel team and after hundreds of hours of mixes, it's great to still be inspired to push myself even further than before with this mix and be among such esteemed company as the show morphs once again into a new era.'

Solid Steel Radio Show 05/12/2018 Hour 2 - DJ Food

Plaid's techno is some of the most thoughtful out there, and the way
the British pair deliver it is often just as interesting. Take
Ed Handley and Andy Turner's latest album, Polymer, which came with its
own interactive web environment and encouraged us to think about the
role artificial substances play in our lives. Musically it was
a harder-edged mix of broken techno and heavy snares, but still offered
the sort of technicality and emotion that has always stood the Warp
duo apart.

In their mix for us they put all their many years of know-how into a
timeless selection of tense and engaging electronic sounds. It touches
on far-gazing and futuristic techno, melancholic ambient passages and
onto scintillatingly melodic IDM and twisted jungle. It's a real
rollercoaster from two jedis of the scene.
