This week DK returns with a trawl through the digital inbox and catches up on some recent and upcoming releases. We kick off once again with the excellent Warrior One remix of 'Eyesdown' by Bonobo and continue in a leftfield uptempo groove with Martyn, Joy Orbison and Octa Push, before dropping the huge bomb that is the Nero mix of 'Sincere'. More bass heavy beats follow before dropping down with new material from the great Gil Scott-Heron, Jay Electronica and the original from Billy Stewart. It's a west London shuffle with 2000 black on the remix for Ty and Seiji mixing it with Jern Eye. Classics from Tom Tom Club and Donald Banks along with some Afrobeat flavours bring the first hour to a close.

Solid Steel Radio Show 19/3/2010 Part 3 + 4 - Killer Tomato

This week Hexstatic in the mix as they celebrate the release of new single ‘Gammera’ this Monday, the first release on Robin Hexstatic’s new imprint Lower Level Records.
    The mix sees some of the influence affecting this direction and takes in tracks from ‘Gammera’ remixers Akira Kiteshi, with his awesome take on the The Pinball Number Count, and George Lenton, bringing some old, cold rocking samples bang up to date. Beautifully complex crunk from Reso starts us off and leads us through releases from pop pioneers Gorrillaz and Massive Attack,.. ending up-tempo with some older faves from Pantha Du prince and Joy Orbison. Gammera single out this Monday 22nd, with a special Bandcamp bundle featuring all three mixes and the Gammera remix iPod video.

Wajeed is on the remix for Ty and then we take an African journey with Pastor Mbhobho, Mujava, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra and a classic from Manu Dibango. This week DK's back after a short break and time to catch up on releases from the last few weeks. Recent guests The Simonsound kick off with their Jimmy Castor cover followed by Kei Kobayashi's version from a few years back and we continue with Janelle Monae, Diego And The Dissidents and a new remix from Naughty by Nature. A classic 12 from Ian Dury rides alongside a track from the excellent Caribou album and into Liquid Liquid's 'Cavern' before we pick it up with Trenchman and Nick Thayer. Noisia take it further courtesy of an Ed Rush & Optical remix and Subfocus gives Timewarp a nice VIP refresh before a 'Drumstep!' mix from Crissy Criss & Youngman. Hip Hop from Double Vision, Jay Electronica (minus the P Diddy rant) and dub flavours from Quantic slip nicely into dubstep and we reach the end of the first hour with James Blake and soul at it's best from The Lost Generation.

Solid Steel Radio Show 11/6/2010 Part 1 + 2 - DK

Solid Steel in association with Serato (30th July) DK takes charge of hour 1 and straight in with two hot new tracks from Big Dada. New signing DELS with the excellent 'Shapeshift' (and a great video to match), followed by the grandaddy of UK hip hop, Roots Manuva with at track from his upcoming EP alongside Wrongtom. A nod to Melvin Bliss (RIP) and his well sampled track 'Synthetic substitution', before we up the pace with Flore and Total Science & S.P.Y. Chali 2na hits the button marked dubstep, plus more wobbles from Cakeboy and Toddla T, remixed by Benga. Big Daddy Kane and PE represent the old skool (and a taste of the second hour) and it sounds like Fred Wesley's 'Blow your head' inspired an African version by 'Rob' on the superb Afro-Beat Airways compilation. Mount Kimbie, L VIS 1990, Sepalcure and Bunny on Acid bring the first hour to a lush close.
