“Der Schimmel” lays out a hermetic and gem-like study in voice, tape and electronics across two side long compositions. Poem-fragments mold and gather into a sonorous mesh. The compositions echo in organic repetition while some integral part of its inferred world refrains from emerging in full. Recorded as the artist was adjusting to a recent move to a new country, and learning a new language. Der Schimmel, exhibits the amplifying fruits of immersion; a stage precariously revealed in it's pull between the familiarity of home and the grafting of new roots.

This short study tries to explore a methodology for presenting electronic music by incorporating algorithmic processes -within the SuperCollider programming language- for the spatialisation of sounds in real-time using a large number of loudspeakers.

A human heart is amplified and sent to a computer running a programming language; this delicate "instrument" is responsible for triggering the audio processes in real-time and for controlling the musical flow. The performer becomes a listener to his own internal rhythm and attempts to adjust the unfolding of the music psychosomatically, thus engaging in a constant loop between his own sounding body and mental state.

Peri-Phonis is an eight channel electroacoustic piece composed in 2011 (presented here as stereo).  Using the female voice as a source, this piece explores pitch recognition and spatial perception. Shifting between the percussive nature of short-scattered sounds and the spectrum of long sustained sounds, the composition is sonically based on the traditional Welsh song “Lisa Lân” sung by the postgraduate student Nia Williams.

Peri-Phonis (StereoReferenceOnly)

The piece was written in Athens during the global lock-down of the 2020 pandemic. It is aimed to be performed by an amateur pianist, last in a concert of contemporary music to act as a "recover". All signal processing takes place in real-time; the computer simply freezes the piano's spectrum.
