He was just another DJ, though a prolific one for sure. Reading the RA obituary, one gets the impression that, despite his behavioral shortcomings, he was a DJ god. He was not. Just listen to the transition between track 1 and 2—a common mistake made by many DJs without proper musical training. The beat matching is spot on (thanks CDJs), but there’s no sense or understanding of harmonies, whether they match or not (even though Rekordbox offers a harmony function for the tone-deaf). Even worse is the mix at around 14:00—pretty bad. That said, in terms of track selection, it’s an excellent mix. Generally speaking, Jackmaster was more of a super talented self-promoter with a loooot of luck, rather than a truly great DJ. But hey, he carved out a place for himself in the DJ Olympus of the masses—no small achievement. In that sense, RIP!

Social Criticism in Lauryn Hill's 'Doo Wop (That Thing)'
Lauryn Hill's song 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' is an empowerment anthem and a sharp social critique, released in 1998 as part of her acclaimed album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'. The song addresses themes of self-respect, sexuality and the dangers of being carried away by appearances and materialism.
In the first verse, Hill speaks directly to women, warning them about the dangers of allowing themselves to be used by men who are only interested in 'that thing'. She criticizes the idea that women must conform to standards of beauty and behavior in order to be accepted or loved, mentioning 'hair weaves like Europeans' and 'fake nails done by Koreans' as examples of how women are pressured to conform to external standards. The artist also references religious and historical figures, such as Jezebel, to illustrate the consequences of straying from one's own principles and values.
The second verse is directed at men, criticizing those who prioritize material possessions and status over their responsibilities and relationships.
