In celebration of Horace Silver's life in music, Gilles Peterson puts together a mix of his finest work, spanning a 30 year career on Blue Note Recordings. 

A master of the keys and the sax, Horace played alongside Miles Davis on a number of legendary albums, and he passed away June 18th, 2014.

So here’s my tribute to the mighty mighty one, Mr Maurice White, who sadly passed away on February 4 of this year. He left us an incredible treasure trove of music that has shaped the way I live my life!

I avoided the really obvious hits that you can hear everywhere and went for my personal faves, and a solid dose of the music that went on to shape the unique sound of Earth Wind and Fire from his early years working with two great mentors to him, Ramsey Lewis and Charles Stepney.

I got so much pleasure recording this - I hope you enjoy as much as I did!
