Eddy Ramich is a familiar name to anyone with more than a passing interest in modern, soulful European electronic music. The Croatian DJ and producer has become a mainstay of the forward thinking and eclectic scene for the past three decades. From his pioneering Kontrapunkt events in Zagreb, to his much loved collaborations with Dus and Yannah, Eddy has always been at the forefront of the movement.

And it’s once again a collaboration that brings Ramich, now based in Berlin, to his hometown label Sonar Kollektiv this summer - this time hooking up with Viennese producer Roman Rauch. This highly respected beat maker and DJ, despite hailing from Austria’s green valleys, channels the raw, deep soul of Detroit and Chicago in his sublime musical productions, and here it’s no different.

The pair’s unique partnership for Sonar Kollektiv is completed with the enlisting of our very own Pete Josef on vocal duties. The blue-eyed soul singer from Bristol has been an integral part of the label since releasing his debut long-player, Colours, in 2015 as well as subsequent remixes and the follow up album, I Rise With The Birds, five years later.

On Dayglow, Pete’s smooth and sultry tones add rich textures to Eddy and Roman’s steadfast four-to-the-floor beats, and a vocal hook that’ll stay with you for some time to come. Bright synths follow its lead and crisp percussion adds a lightness of touch to counterbalance the foot friendly bottom end and make this a future club and beach banger!

On remix duties is none other than Japanese DJ, producer and folk hero - and another regular collaborator of Eddy’s - Shuya Okino. The man behind Kyoto Jazz Massive, and legendary music venue The Room, adds a generous dose of jazz-funk to the proceedings with some serious live bass, tender keys and more restrained drums that’ll make his version a favourite for fans of acts like STR4TA, Incognito and Freeeze.

It is exactly 10 Years ago since YOSA’s last EP on Dirt Crew Recordings and we are so delighted to welcome him back on the label! We have always had a deep connection with Japan, doing lots of events and visiting regularly. YOSA has always been one of our friends on the forefront of the Tokyo scene. YOSA has had a little break from dance music for the past six years, concentrating more on Pop and Indie music.

In his own words: “I believe this Rainbow EP is worthy for my comeback after 6 years of rest. When I heard the original vocal sample during the pandemic, I almost cried and immediately composed "Rainbow". Then I decided to go back to this house music scene where I used to be. I can see people dancing, laughing, crying with joy, and celebrating a reunion on the grass, under the rainbow with this track.”

Rainbow is a pumping and uplifting deep groover of a track and as YOSA already mentioned a perfect fit for any Summer outdoor dancing event. The second track “Thermae” has a more Disco-fied feel and an irresistible bass line. On the remixes we have a fairly new producer from Japan called “mok”, these two mixes are his first official outings, but he already has produced a big collection of tracks. YOSA says “He is such a genius, and I'm glad to be able to introduce his talent to the world.” Both mixes are chilled, relaxed and dubbed-out journeys with a delicate indie twist. Recored this week at our last ever sunset at La Torre. It's been an absolute pleasure playing there (for the most part) these past few years and I am eternally grateful to Pete Gooding for asking us to get involved when he was programming the venue, Pablo for trusting his judgment and continuing our residency there whilst pretty much most of the OG playas fell by the wayside and Javier for allowing us to do exactly what we wanted there. Managing to slip in tracks by The Fall, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Butthole Surfers, Kramer and other such nonsense amongst more obvious 'Balearic' staples gave me such unbridled happiness it's difficult to explain. Thanks to everyone that came down and listened to us and Big Love to the staff that kept us watered....

Another Bloody Sunset #11

D.S.D. serves up a brand new EP of nu-disco slammers to brighten up the darkest nights.

Think Of You kicks things off with a 5th synth riff, niggling acid and solid nu-disco drums in perfect combination. Deep, hypnotic and ideal for any set, any time.

Flash Atkins and 2 Billion Beats take Think of You and give it some oomph. The riff is amped up, drums are toughened and tension builds to the break before the acid and rave piano produce a hands in the air moment.

Elemental is a mid temp disco chugger pinned down by conga driven drums, a nagging sub and arp. Things build with a piano as pads and EFX cast their cosmic magic.

Just Can't Stop takes a funky bass, vocal stabs, key and brass samples to create a low slung slab of deep groove. Just when things can't get any better, the acid hits.

My Heart keeps the spaced out 4/4 funk alive with a wandering bass, trippy keys, big pads, sampled vocals and delayed arps. Late nights and early mornings never sounded so good.
